في حدث غير مسبوق، نجحت مصر في الفوز برئاسة المجلس التنفيذي لمنظمة الأغذية والزراعة التابعة للأمم المتحدة (الفاو) لمدة أربع سنوات، في خطوة تاريخية تُعد الأولى لدولة عربية منذ تأسيس المنظمة عام 1945.
وتأتي هذه الرئاسة، التي حصل عليها المستشار مينا رزق، نائب المندوب الدائم لمصر لدى الفاو، بعد منافسة شرسة مع مرشحين من مختلف القارات، ليصبح أصغر رئيس لهذا المنصب بعمر 38 عاماً.
وأعلن السفير بسام راضي، سفير مصر في إيطاليا ومندوبها الدائم لدى منظمات الأمم المتحدة في روما، أن المؤتمر العام لـ«الفاو» انتخب مصر بالإجماع رئيساً للمجلس التنفيذي خلال جلسته العامة أمس.
وتقدمت السفارة المصرية في روما بترشيح المستشار مينا رزق، الذي تفوق على أربعة مرشحين آخرين من أفريقيا، آسيا، أمريكا الجنوبية، أمريكا الشمالية وأوروبا، في انتخابات تنافسية ضمت وزراء ومسؤولين كبار.
ويعد هذا الفوز الأول من نوعه لمصري يتولى هذا المنصب الرفيع في تاريخ المنظمة الممتد على مدار 80 عاماً.
وأكد السفير بسام راضي أن اختيار مينا رزق، البالغ من العمر 38 عاماً، يتماشى مع رؤية الرئيس المصري عبد الفتاح السيسي في تمكين الشباب وإعدادهم لتولي المناصب القيادية في المحافل الدولية.
وأشار إلى أن هذا الترشيح يعكس استراتيجية وزارة الخارجية المصرية في صقل كوادر الدبلوماسيين الشباب من خلال تجارب عملية، ليكونوا القاطرة المستقبلية للدبلوماسية المصرية، كما يبرز جهود السفارة المصرية في روما لتأكيد كفاءة الترشيحات المصرية وأحقية مصر في قيادة المنظمة في وقت تتزايد فيه أهمية قضايا الأمن الغذائي، والمياه، والزراعة.
ويُعد المجلس التنفيذي لـ«الفاو» الهيئة الحاكمة الرئيسية للمنظمة، وهو المسؤول عن رسم سياساتها وتوجيه عملها في مجالات الزراعة والأمن الغذائي.
ويضم المجلس نحو ربع الدول الأعضاء المنتخبة لمدة ثلاث سنوات، وتتمتع مصر بعضويته إلى جانب رئاسته.
كما حققت مصر إنجازات أخرى داخل المنظمة، تشمل فوز الجهاز المركزي للمحاسبات بمهمة المراجعة القانونية والمالية لـ«الفاو»، وتكريم بنك الطعام المصري بجائزة تقديرية، إضافة إلى استضافة العاصمة الإدارية الجديدة المؤتمر الدولي السنوي لمكاتب الفاو الإقليمية والقطرية هذا العام.
فيما أعلن الدكتور كيودونغ يو، المدير العام لـ«الفاو»، مبايعته لمصر كرئيس مستقل للمجلس التنفيذي، مشيداً بهذا الإنجاز التاريخي الذي يعزز التمثيل العربي والأفريقي في قيادة المنظمة.
وتزامن هذا الفوز مع انتخاب مصر عضواً في اللجنة العامة للمؤتمر الـ44 للمنظمة، ما يعكس الثقة الدولية المتزايدة في الدور القيادي لمصر، خصوصاً في ظل مشاريعها التنموية الكبرى في مجالات الزراعة والأمن الغذائي ضمن رؤية مصر 2030.
In an unprecedented event, Egypt succeeded in winning the presidency of the Executive Council of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for four years, in a historic step that marks the first time an Arab country has held this position since the organization's establishment in 1945.
This presidency, awarded to Counselor Mina Rizk, Deputy Permanent Representative of Egypt to the FAO, comes after fierce competition with candidates from various continents, making him the youngest president of this position at the age of 38.
Ambassador Bassam Rady, Egypt's Ambassador to Italy and its Permanent Representative to UN organizations in Rome, announced that the FAO General Conference unanimously elected Egypt as the president of the Executive Council during its general session yesterday.
The Egyptian Embassy in Rome nominated Counselor Mina Rizk, who outperformed four other candidates from Africa, Asia, South America, North America, and Europe in a competitive election that included ministers and senior officials.
This victory is the first of its kind for an Egyptian to hold this prestigious position in the organization's 80-year history.
Ambassador Bassam Rady confirmed that the selection of Mina Rizk, who is 38 years old, aligns with the vision of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in empowering youth and preparing them to take on leadership roles in international forums.
He noted that this nomination reflects the strategy of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in honing the skills of young diplomats through practical experiences, making them the future driving force of Egyptian diplomacy, while also highlighting the efforts of the Egyptian Embassy in Rome to affirm the competence of Egyptian nominations and Egypt's right to lead the organization at a time when issues of food security, water, and agriculture are becoming increasingly important.
The Executive Council of the FAO is the main governing body of the organization, responsible for shaping its policies and directing its work in the fields of agriculture and food security.
The council includes about a quarter of the elected member states for a three-year term, and Egypt enjoys membership alongside its presidency.
Egypt has also achieved other accomplishments within the organization, including the Central Auditing Organization winning the task of legal and financial auditing for the FAO, and the Egyptian Food Bank being honored with an appreciation award, in addition to hosting the new administrative capital for the annual international conference of FAO's regional and country offices this year.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ki-dong Yoo, the Director-General of the FAO, pledged allegiance to Egypt as the independent president of the Executive Council, praising this historic achievement that enhances Arab and African representation in the leadership of the organization.
This victory coincided with Egypt's election as a member of the General Committee of the 44th conference of the organization, reflecting the growing international confidence in Egypt's leadership role, especially in light of its major development projects in agriculture and food security within the framework of Egypt's Vision 2030.
