British Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner admitted today that she did not pay enough tax to purchase a home and that she considered resigning from her position.
After weeks of media speculation regarding the tax paid when she bought an apartment in the resort of Hove on the southern coast of England, Rayner stated that she had referred herself to the independent advisor on ministerial standards.
Rayner, who appeared visibly emotional, added that she received inaccurate tax advice regarding the purchase of a home worth £800,000 (equivalent to $1 million), and discussed with her family the possibility of resigning from her government job.
She explained that the complexities associated with her complicated living arrangements were exacerbated by her divorce in 2023 and her son's disabilities, which will accompany him for life due to an injury.
It is worth noting that Rayner, born on March 28, 1980, is a British politician and trade unionist who has served as Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Minister of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government since July 2024. She has been the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party since 2020 and has been a Member of Parliament for the Labour and Co-operative Party in Ashton-under-Lyne since 2015.
