أعلن الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، أن العلاقات التجارية بين بلاده والهند ظلت أحادية الجانب لعقود عدة، مشيراً إلى أن واشنطن تستورد كميات ضخمة من السلع من الهند، بينما لا تصدر إليها سوى القليل.
وأوضح ترمب في منشور عبر «تروث سوشيال»، أن السبب وراء ذلك هو الرسوم الجمركية المرتفعة التي فرضتها نيودلهي على البضائع الأمريكية، معتبراً أنها كانت «الأعلى بين جميع الدول» وأدت إلى صعوبة دخول المنتجات الأمريكية إلى السوق الهندية.
وأشار إلى أن الهند تعتمد بشكل أساسي على روسيا في شراء النفط والمنتجات العسكرية، مقابل اعتماد محدود على الولايات المتحدة، لافتاً إلى أن نيودلهي عرضت أخيراً إلغاء الرسوم الجمركية على الواردات الأمريكية، لكنه رأى أن الخطوة جاءت متأخرة.
ولم ترد السفارة الهندية في واشنطن بعد على تعليقات ترمب، التي صدرت عقب بدء تنفيذ قرار فرض رسوم جمركية إجمالية تصل إلى 50% على السلع الهندية.

ويجعل القرار الأمريكي الرسوم الجمركية الإجمالية مرتفعة حتى 50% على سلع مثل الملابس والأحجار الكريمة والمجوهرات والأحذية والسلع الرياضية والأثاث والمواد الكيميائية، وهي من بين أعلى الرسوم التي تفرضها الولايات المتحدة وتكاد تضاهي تلك المفروضة في البرازيل.
كما تهدد الرسوم الجديدة آلاف المصدّرين الصغار والوظائف المرتبطة بهم، بما في ذلك في ولاية غوجارات مسقط رأس رئيس الوزراء ناريندرا مودي.

President Donald Trump announced that trade relations between the United States and India have been one-sided for several decades, pointing out that Washington imports huge quantities of goods from India while exporting only a little to it.
Trump explained in a post on "Truth Social" that the reason for this is the high tariffs imposed by New Delhi on American goods, considering them to be "the highest among all countries," which has made it difficult for American products to enter the Indian market.
He noted that India primarily relies on Russia for purchasing oil and military products, with limited reliance on the United States, pointing out that New Delhi recently offered to eliminate tariffs on American imports, but he saw this step as coming too late.
The Indian embassy in Washington has not yet responded to Trump's comments, which were made following the implementation of a decision to impose total tariffs of up to 50% on Indian goods.

The new tariffs also threaten thousands of small exporters and the jobs associated with them, including in Gujarat, the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
