أصدر الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، اليوم، أمرا تنفيذيّا يقضي بفرض رسوم جمركية إضافية 25% على الواردات من الهند، لتضاف إلى رسوم جمركية 25% أُعلن عنها سابقا.
وتنذر هذه الخطوة بمزيد من التعقيدات في العلاقات الأمريكية الهندية، وتأتي بعد وقت قصير من إعلان مصدر حكومي هندي أن رئيس الوزراء ناريندرا مودي سيزور الصين لأول مرة منذ أكثر من سبع سنوات في وقت لاحق من الشهر الجاري.
وتشهد العلاقات الأمريكية الهندية أكبر أزمة منذ سنوات بعد أن باءت المحادثات مع نيودلهي بالفشل في إبرام اتفاق تجاري.
من جهتها، أعلنت الحكومة في الهند أنها تأسف لقرار أمريكا بشأن فرض رسوم جمركية إضافية، وأكدت أنها ستعمل على حماية مصالحها الوطنية بعد الإجراء الذي اتخذته واشنطن.
يذكر أن هذه الرسوم الجديدة تضاف إلى رسوم سابقة بنسبة 25% من المقرر أن تدخل حيّز التنفيذ اعتبارا من غدٍ (الخميس)، تزامنا مع رسوم أخرى يعتبرها ترمب «متبادلة»، من المنتظر أن تُطبق خلال 21 يوما.
وتعد الهند تاسع أكبر شريك تجاري لأمريكا، حيث تذهب 18% من صادرات الهند إلى الولايات المتحدة.

President Donald Trump issued an executive order today imposing an additional 25% tariff on imports from India, adding to the previously announced 25% tariff.
This move signals further complications in U.S.-India relations and comes shortly after an Indian government source announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit China for the first time in over seven years later this month.
The U.S.-India relationship is experiencing its biggest crisis in years after talks with New Delhi failed to reach a trade agreement.
For its part, the Indian government expressed regret over the U.S. decision to impose additional tariffs and confirmed that it will work to protect its national interests following the action taken by Washington.
It is worth noting that these new tariffs are in addition to a previous 25% tariff set to take effect starting tomorrow (Thursday), coinciding with other tariffs that Trump considers "reciprocal," which are expected to be implemented within 21 days.
India is the ninth-largest trading partner of the U.S., with 18% of India's exports going to the United States.
