كرر الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، اليوم، دعوته لرئيس مجلس الاحتياطي الفيدرالي جيروم باول إلى الاستقالة، قائلا: «ينبغي أن يستقيل رئيس الاحتياطي الاتحادي على الفور».
وفي وقت سابق، قال الرئيس الأمريكي: «إن لديه خيارين أو ثلاثة من أفضل الخيارات ليحلوا محل جيروم باول، واتهمه بالفشل في أداء واجبه، مشدداً على أن سعر الفائدة يجب أن يكون 1% أو أقل».
وانتقد ترمب بشدة موقف الاحتياطي الفيدرالي المتمثل في إبقاء أسعار الفائدة ثابتة، داعياً إلى تخفيضات، قائلاً: «إن البنك المركزي يُبقي تكاليف الاقتراض للحكومة الأمريكية مرتفعة».
يذكر أن ترمب قد رشح باول لرئاسة مجلس الاحتياطي خلال ولايته الأولى. ورشحه الرئيس السابق جو بايدن لتولي المنصب لفترة ثانية.
ومن المقرر أن تنتهي فترة رئاسته لمجلس الاحتياطي في مايو 2026.
وكان ترمب قد أدلى بتصريحات سابقة للصحفيين على متن طائرة الرئاسة الأمريكية خلال عودته إلى واشنطن من فلوريد، بعد رفض «باول» التعليق على مسألة خلافته في رئاسة الفيدرالي.
وخلال الحلقة النقاشية لمنتدى البنك المركزي الأوروبي، أخيراً، سُئل «باول» عن انتقادات ترمب له، ليرد: «أنا أركز جداً على أداء عملي». ولقي تصفيقاً حاراً من الحضور.
ورداً على سؤال آخر، حول ما إذا كان سيبقى عضواً بمجلس محافظي البنك المركزي الأمريكي عند انتهاء رئاسته في مايو القادم، قال «باول»: «ليس لدي أي شيء لأقوله لكم اليوم».

Earlier, the American president said, "He has two or three of the best options to replace Jerome Powell," accusing him of failing to perform his duties, emphasizing that the interest rate should be 1% or lower."
Trump strongly criticized the Federal Reserve's stance of keeping interest rates steady, calling for cuts, saying, "The central bank keeps borrowing costs for the U.S. government high."
It is worth noting that Trump nominated Powell to lead the Fed during his first term. Former President Joe Biden nominated him for a second term.
His term as Fed Chairman is set to end in May 2026.
Trump had made previous statements to reporters aboard Air Force One while returning to Washington from Florida, after Powell declined to comment on the issue of his succession as Fed Chair.
During a discussion panel at the European Central Bank Forum recently, Powell was asked about Trump's criticisms of him, to which he responded, "I am very focused on doing my job." He received a warm round of applause from the audience.
In response to another question about whether he would remain a member of the Board of Governors of the U.S. central bank when his term ends next May, Powell said, "I have nothing to say to you today."
