أعلن الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترامب، أنه يعتزم زيادة الرسوم الجمركية على الواردات الأجنبية من الصلب والألمنيوم من 25% إلى 50%.
وأضاف ترمب خلال تجمع حاشد في بنسلفانيا: «سنفرض زيادة بنسبة 25%. سنرفع الرسوم الجمركية على واردات الصلب إلى الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية من 25% إلى 50%، مما سيعزز صناعة الصلب في الولايات المتحدة».
وأشار ترمب إلى زيادة الرسوم الجمركية على منتجات الصلب خلال خطاب ألقاه قرب مدينة بيتسبرغ بولاية بنسلفانيا، حيث أشاد باتفاقية بين شركتي نيبون ستيل اليابانية ويو إس ستيل الأمريكية. وقال: «إن الصفقة التي تبلغ قيمتها 14,9 مليار دولار ستساعد، شأنها شأن الرسوم الجمركية، في الحفاظ على وظائف عمال الصلب في الولايات المتحدة».
وفي وقت لاحق، أعلن ترمب أن زيادة الرسوم الجمركية ستطبق أيضاً على منتجات الألمنيوم وأنها ستدخل حيز التنفيذ في الرابع من يونيو القادم. وقال ترمب في منشور على منصة تروث سوشيال: «صناعتا الصلب والألمنيوم الخاصة بنا تعودان بقوة لم يسبق لها مثيل».
وكانت الرسوم الجمركية على الصلب والألمنيوم من بين أوائل الرسوم التي فرضها ترمب لدى عودته إلى منصبه في يناير الماضي، ودخلت الرسوم الجمركية البالغة 25% على معظم واردات الصلب والألمنيوم إلى الولايات المتحدة حيز التنفيذ في مارس الماضي. وكان ترمب قد هدد لفترة وجيزة بفرض رسوم بنسبة 50% على الصلب الكندي لكنه تراجع بعد ذلك.
وباستثناء الاتحاد الأوروبي، تعد الولايات المتحدة أكبر مستورد للصلب في العالم. وتقول وزارة التجارة إن إجمالي واردات البلاد من الصلب بلغت 26,2 مليون طن في عام 2024. ولذلك فمن المرجح أن تؤدي الرسوم الجمركية الجديدة إلى زيادة أسعار الصلب على نطاق واسع مما يؤثر سلباً على الصناعة والمستهلكين على حد سواء.

President Donald Trump announced that he intends to increase tariffs on foreign imports of steel and aluminum from 25% to 50%.
Trump added during a rally in Pennsylvania: “We will impose a 25% increase. We will raise tariffs on steel imports to the United States from 25% to 50%, which will boost the steel industry in the United States.”
Trump referred to the increase in tariffs on steel products during a speech near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he praised an agreement between Japan's Nippon Steel and America's U.S. Steel. He said, “The deal, worth $14.9 billion, will help, just like the tariffs, in preserving jobs for steelworkers in the United States.”
Later, Trump announced that the tariff increase would also apply to aluminum products and that it would take effect on June 4. Trump stated in a post on Truth Social: “Our steel and aluminum industries are coming back stronger than ever.”
The tariffs on steel and aluminum were among the first tariffs imposed by Trump upon his return to office last January, with the 25% tariffs on most steel and aluminum imports to the United States taking effect in March. Trump had briefly threatened to impose a 50% tariff on Canadian steel but later backed down.
Except for the European Union, the United States is the largest importer of steel in the world. The Department of Commerce states that the total imports of steel into the country reached 26.2 million tons in 2024. Therefore, the new tariffs are likely to lead to widespread increases in steel prices, negatively affecting both the industry and consumers alike.
