The retired artist Shams Al-Baroudi sparked interaction with her comment on the statements made by the Egyptian media figure Nagwa Ibrahim regarding the appearances of female artists. She directed a message to her that included a reproach for publicly criticizing her colleagues, calling for advice to be free from any phrases that could be understood as insults or belittlement of others.
Shams Al-Baroudi chose her account on "Facebook" to respond to Nagwa Ibrahim, recalling moments from her experience after retirement, confirming that she preferred to stay away from conflicts and did not intend to insult her colleagues or comment on their personal choices, saying: "We learned even in calling to the religion of God that advice in public is a disgrace."
The reason for her withdrawal from the union
The retired artist recalled a moment from her retirement period, explaining that a comment made by the late artist Fatma Maher regarding her decision to distance herself from art prompted her to terminate her membership in the Actors' Syndicate, after she considered what was said about her to be an insult.
She confirmed that she preferred to withdraw without responding or directing criticisms to her colleagues, whether those who worked with her previously or those who began their artistic journey after her retirement, indicating that artistic work should not be mixed with personal behavior.
A suggestion to Ashraf Zaki regarding criticisms of female artists
In her message, Shams Al-Baroudi suggested to Nagwa Ibrahim to personally communicate with the head of the Actors' Syndicate, Ashraf Zaki, to discuss what she sees as appropriate regarding advising female artists, instead of presenting criticisms in front of the public.
She also rejected narrowing the discussion to clothing and appearances, considering that judging others should not be limited to their appearance, and that intentions and what souls conceal are matters known only to God.
Shams Al-Baroudi reproaches Nagwa Ibrahim
On another note, Shams Al-Baroudi criticized Nagwa Ibrahim for linking the love of the audience for her with the criticism of her colleagues, considering that her status among the generations she is associated with should not come at the expense of others in the artistic community, nor should it be exploited to justify negative comments on their choices.
She emphasized the necessity of considering the feelings of colleagues when directing any advice, away from insult and belittlement, saying: "It saddened me that you are happy and enjoy the love and support of your admirers at the expense of mocking and belittling personalities with whom you still enjoy camaraderie."
