The illusion of a magical evening ended in a banking nightmare, as the passion for seeing the giants of Arab music turned into a dark digital trap! In a carefully crafted fraudulent scenario, dozens of art lovers in the city of Tangier found themselves victims of an unprecedented electronic scam that stripped them of their money and bank balances in moments, after they fell for an advertisement promoting a fake concert featuring the great Kazem Al Saher and the Lebanese star Elissa.
When asking: how did the scammers manage to ensnare the victims so easily? We find that the answer lies in the meticulous precision of the scam plan, which relied on two main tricks:
- Deceptive professional design: A high-quality promotional "poster" was prepared that closely mimicked the advertisements for major global concerts in Morocco, stating that the two stars would meet the audience of the bride of the northern Moroccan city on Friday.
- The fictitious location: The unknown organizers designated the concert's location at a place they called the "Royal Cultural Center in Tangier," which was the critical point that the victims did not notice, as it later became clear that this center does not exist at all in reality!
The criminal network's trick did not stop at extracting the value of the fake tickets; it extended to direct access to the bank accounts of the buyers. When a person clicked on the ticket purchase link, a message appeared misleading them into believing there was "heavy pressure on the site’s server," and they were immediately redirected to an account on the "Instagram" platform. There, those wishing to book were asked to provide the page administrators with their bank card number and secret code under the pretext of "facilitating manual booking"!
Within just a few hours, the victims woke up to the shock, as no tickets arrived in their email, but rather consecutive notifications from their banks indicating that various amounts of money had been withdrawn, completely draining their balances. This prompted a Moroccan security alert and intensified investigations to track down the threads of this digital gang.
