وجهت السلطات في ولاية كانساس الأمريكية تهمة القتل من الدرجة الأولى لمذيعة أخبار سابقة، بعد الاشتباه في إقدامها على طعن والدتها المسنة حتى الموت داخل منزل العائلة.
وقالت شرطة مقاطعة سيدجويك، وفقا لصحيفة «بيبول»، إن بلاغا ورد صباح الجمعة 31 أكتوبر بشأن «حادث دموي» داخل منزل بمدينة ويتشيتا، وعند وصول العناصر الأمنية عُثر على المتهمة، أنجيلين «أنجي» موك (47 عاما)، خارج المنزل، قبل أن يعثروا في الداخل على والدتها أنيتا أفيرز (80 عاما) مصابة بعدة طعنات وهي فاقدة للوعي في سريرها.
وتم نقل الأم إلى مستشفى قريب، لكنها فارقت الحياة لاحقا متأثرة بإصابتها، فيما نُقلت موك أيضا للعلاج قبل احتجازها في سجن المقاطعة، وسط كفالة مالية حُددت بمليون دولار.
ولا تزال دوافع الجريمة غير معروفة، بينما تواصل الشرطة تحقيقاتها، ولم يصدر بعد أي بيان رسمي من ممثلي الدفاع أو العائلة.
وبحسب بيانات السجلات المهنية، عملت المتهمة سابقا مذيعة ومراسلة في قناة «فوكس 2» بمدينة سانت لويس بين عامي 2011 و2015، قبل انتقالها إلى مجال المبيعات ثم إلى شركة برمجيات كانت تعمل معها حتى لحظة توقيفها.
The authorities in the state of Kansas have charged a former news anchor with first-degree murder, after suspecting her of stabbing her elderly mother to death inside the family home.
The Sedgwick County Police stated, according to the "People" magazine, that a report was received on the morning of Friday, October 31, regarding a "bloody incident" inside a house in Wichita. Upon arrival, the officers found the accused, Angelin "Angie" Mook (47 years old), outside the home, before discovering her mother, Anita Avers (80 years old), inside with multiple stab wounds and unconscious in her bed.
The mother was transported to a nearby hospital, but later died from her injuries, while Mook was also taken for treatment before being held in the county jail, with bail set at one million dollars.
The motives for the crime remain unknown, as the police continue their investigations, and no official statement has yet been issued by defense representatives or the family.
According to professional records, the accused previously worked as an anchor and reporter at "Fox 2" in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015, before transitioning to sales and then to a software company where she was employed until her arrest.
