With the strong artistic comeback of the artist Fadel Shaker, the Lebanese have entered through the widest doors of the hidden conflict that had been silent for years. While many artists congratulated his return with the release of his latest work, which caught attention and achieved rapid and significant success, Ragheb Alama's statements, along with their implications, ignited the spark that brought the debate back to the forefront. In this new work, there was noticeable massive public support and enthusiastic reactions, but some critics still doubt that the comeback alone is enough to erase the shadows of the past and the accompanying accusations and provocative stances.
Recently, Ragheb Alama published statements in which he strongly denied any association with carrying weapons or any violent acts, stating that the arts should be addressed through dialogue, not accusation.
These statements were not well received by all parties; Mohamed Fadel Shaker, the artist's son, responded that his father did not remain silent about the truth as much as he chose to remain silent in the face of verbal attacks that lasted for thirteen years, and that any talk of justice should be based on truth, not assumptions.
The responses from Lebanese artists varied. Some showed strong support for Fadel Shaker and praised his art and new songs, considering them a sign of a return that deserves celebration, while others demanded that this enthusiasm be met with artistic and personal responsibility; that the artist should present a work that satisfies his audience and proves that he has risen above the legal or social tensions.
This comes at a time when Ragheb Alama is facing a wave of increasing criticism this year due to some stances he displayed on stage during his recent concerts, which some considered exaggerated or outside the traditional framework for an artist of his stature, further intensifying the ongoing debate surrounding his statements related to Fadel Shaker.
This debate between the artistic comeback and old challenges is no longer subject to forgetfulness; rather, it has become a driving force for artistic and media discourse in Lebanon. Everyone is watching — the audience, the press, fellow singers — and they are waiting for the next step: Will Fadel Shaker prove that his return is based on the strength of his voice, or will the media conflict remain complicated?
