تسببت نوبة قلبية مفاجئة تعرض لها عازف الطبول ليونيل ديوك (58 عامًا) من فرقة The Christians في توقف مهرجان «On The Waterfront» بمدينة ليفربول خلال حفل النجم العالمي ستينغ الذي حضره آلاف المعجبين.
وبادر غاري كريستيان، المغني الرئيسي للفرقة، بطلب مساعدة طبية فورية ونقل ديوك إلى مستشفى القلب والصدر في ليفربول، إذ خضع لعملية جراحية ودخل في غيبوبة صناعية، وفق ما أكّدته مديرة الفرقة، إيما روبرتس.
عُرضت تحديثات الحالة الصحية للديوك على شاشات ضخمة، وهي لحظة خيمت فيها مشاعر الحزن والوقار على الحضور، الذين أظهروا تعاطفًا واضحًا. أحدهم كتب: «كان مشهدًا مرعبًا، لكن الجميع تحلّى بالاحترام».
وبعد الموافقة الطبية، واصل ستينغ عروضه بأداء أغنية Fragile تكريمًا لليونيل ديوك، في لحظة وصفتها الجماهير بأنها من أكثر لحظات المهرجان تأثيرًا وصدقًا.
تأسست فرقة The Christians في ثمانينيات القرن الـ20، وحقّق أول ألبوم لها المرتبة الثانية في قوائم بريطانيا، ولا تزال تُقدَّر أعمالها في الوسط الموسيقي الأوروبي.
ينظّم ليفربول هذا الحدث سنويًّا على ضفاف نهر ميرسي، وبلغ عدد الحضور في الدورة السابقة نحو 45 ألف شخص، ويستضيف فنانين وفرَقًا بارزة من أنحاء العالم.
A sudden heart attack suffered by drummer Lionel Duke (58) from the band The Christians caused the "On The Waterfront" festival in Liverpool to come to a halt during a performance by global star Sting, which was attended by thousands of fans.
Gary Christian, the lead singer of the band, immediately called for medical assistance and had Duke transported to the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, where he underwent surgery and was placed in an induced coma, as confirmed by the band's manager, Emma Roberts.
Updates on Duke's health condition were displayed on large screens, a moment that was filled with feelings of sadness and respect among the audience, who showed clear empathy. One person wrote: "It was a terrifying scene, but everyone showed respect."
After receiving medical approval, Sting continued his performance by singing the song Fragile in honor of Lionel Duke, in a moment that the audience described as one of the most impactful and sincere moments of the festival.
The Christians band was formed in the 1980s, and their first album reached number two on the UK charts, and their work continues to be appreciated in the European music scene.
Liverpool hosts this event annually on the banks of the River Mersey, with attendance in the previous edition reaching around 45,000 people, featuring prominent artists and bands from around the world.
