The liberation of the neck is not limited to freeing a person from the sword, nor should we reduce this broad meaning to a single image of salvation.
A person may be bound by something stronger than iron, or enslaved by a debt that weighs heavily on them, or afflicted by an illness that hinders their life, or hunger that exhausts their body, or injustice that robs them of their rights, or fear that deprives them of peace. Each of these constraints requires someone to recognize it before they can strive to break it.
Rescue may come in the form of saving a person from retribution, settling their debts, providing treatment, feeding them, lifting oppression from them, or granting them an opportunity to regain their ability to rely on themselves.
Nevertheless, there is a difference between the precise legal meaning of the liberation of the neck and its use in a humanitarian and metaphorical sense. In legal terminology, liberation has its own implications and specific rulings, and it is not appropriate to mix it with all other forms of charity and benevolence. However, the broadening of the concept of liberation in humanitarian discourse does not detract from the precision of the legal term; rather, it opens our eyes to other forms of suffering that a person may endure while being free in body yet shackled in life.
Perhaps the greatest thing a person can do is to discover a constraint that no one else sees, and then extend a hand to those who burden them, not to offer something fleeting, but to restore their ability to stand and live with dignity.
Finally
Therefore, liberation is not always a rescue from the sword, nor is it a reduction of the broad meaning to a single image of salvation; it may be a rescue from everything that makes a person live as a captive, even if they are without chains.
