One of the notable things currently on social media platforms, in light of the dominance of "social media," is that everyone and anyone has started to impersonate the title of "journalist," causing this designation to lose its prestige. In the past, journalists had their own specific standards, weight, and significance, as society would follow and anticipate the new content they would present daily, especially in print journalism.
Today, with the emergence of segments of people who have no connection to journalism and its world, the content has become flimsy, not elevating its creator to the status of "journalist." This is all due to the proliferation and spread of platforms, which have opened the door wide for these individuals to broadcast weak content unrelated to journalism and media, and the qualifications to carry the title of "journalist" are not met by its holders.
If we look at the previous generation of journalists, we find that what they provided throughout their years of work and experience was not easy or paved with roses. They faced many challenges and difficulties with limited resources and professional tools. Nevertheless, they managed to achieve success and left their mark, writing their rich journalistic journey.
As one of the journalists from the pioneering and prestigious "Okaz" school, where I spent more than thirty-five years, I remember how each of us strived to create news and document it with all available tools, and the fair competition that brought colleagues together in their respective specialties. This is what made "Okaz" stand out since that time and continues to do so today, with its leadership, credibility, and strong reach.
Finally..
I hope that those impersonating the title of journalist will respect the profession and avoid misleading others, as journalism is not just about writing "scribbles" under the label of "journalist," but rather a message that journalists convey with all the defined professional standards.
