What happened the day before yesterday, on Monday, is truly considered a significant diplomatic breakthrough in the context of the intense tension dominating the region, following the intensified American/Israeli escalation with renewed attacks on Iran in a harsher and more violent manner. The state of anticipation reached its peak due to the lack of any notable progress in the memorandum of understanding between the American and Iranian sides, with matters returning to square one. On the other hand, Netanyahu was threatening to launch a unilateral attack without waiting for a green light from Washington, and with each passing day, the situation worsened until it became evident to everyone that the moment of explosion was very close, and if it occurred, it would push the region into the most dangerous scenario imaginable.
Suddenly, a delegation landed in Tehran, engaging in discussions with its senior officials, including the Iranian president. This very important delegation from the Mecca Agreement countries, namely Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey, was not represented by foreign ministers but rather by a Minister of Defense, an Army Chief, and an Intelligence Chief.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on the day of the visit, confirming that "the visit by His Royal Highness Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Minister of Defense, and representatives of the Mecca Agreement countries for mutual defense, to the Iranian capital Tehran to meet with senior Iranian officials, comes within the framework of the ongoing efforts of the Mecca Agreement countries for mutual defense to de-escalate tensions among the parties in the current crisis, encourage dialogue and diplomatic solutions, and support the mediation efforts being carried out by the State of Qatar and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan."
Thus, it becomes clear that the delegation is making earnest efforts for the benefit of all parties, and for the benefit of the region and the world, as its countries are well aware of the dangers of the impending military confrontation, especially after the dire consequences of the previous confrontation and its repercussions on regional security and stability and the global economy.
The Mecca Agreement countries for mutual defense do not seek to militarize solutions through the nature of the agreement, but always strive, both before and after the alliance, to resolve the crisis diplomatically by all means. The delegation's visit to Iran is evidence of its commitment to avoiding war by all efforts and means, and to spare the countries of the region from entering a major crisis, in which Iran would be the biggest loser, as it would face this time unconventional weapons, as hinted by America, adding further destruction to its infrastructure, its people, and its economy, which is suffocated by the blockade.
The Iranian statements following the visit were less stringent than what we are accustomed to from its officials, and while they do not include anything confirming its desire to respond positively to the initiative, it may have responded to it but does not want to appear publicly as if it has succumbed to American pressure. In any case, the initiative from the Mecca Agreement countries could be the last lifeline to save the region, and Iran in particular, from the horrors that would result from a war if it ignites, and Iran must deal responsibly with this initiative before it is too late.
