The visit of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan to the Kingdom came in response to the invitation of Prince Khalid bin Salman, at a regionally sensitive time that requires the utmost levels of coordination and understanding to face the repercussions of the serious events sweeping the region and affecting the interests of its countries. It also embodies the natural extension of a historical relationship between two countries that share deep ties, common interests, proximity, and two peoples with many bonds of kinship and brotherhood!
Therefore, reading the visit from the perspective of differing positions, no matter how present, reduces a wide-ranging relationship to a file or a position that is more interconnected and intertwined. International relations are not based on constant alignment in viewpoints, but rather on the ability to manage differences when they arise, and on keeping common interests greater than points of divergence!
Herein lies the importance of direct communication between the Saudi and Emirati leaderships. The issues on which the two countries may differ do not require social media platforms for interpretation, nor media campaigns for direction; rather, they need calm dialogue that preserves common interests and strengthens shared positions.
Throughout the history of Saudi-Emirati relations, common denominators have been the broader and more influential space. The ties of blood, proximity, common interests, and shared security are not merely protocol slogans, but rather facts imposed by geography, history, and mutual interests!
From this perspective, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed's visit and his meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Minister of Defense Prince Khalid bin Salman should be viewed in their natural context: communication between two leaderships, dialogue between two countries, and a relationship with roots too deep to be shaken by the winds of uncontrolled social media. Ultimately, strategic relations between countries are not measured by the noise of social media, but by what countries do when they prioritize their interests and the interests of their peoples. Riyadh and Abu Dhabi have enough history, geography, and common interests to ensure that dialogue is always stronger than the noise!
