The series titled "Chaos" is being showcased on the Netflix platform, and it is evident that it is supervised by Israeli security agencies; as it portrays the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from an Israeli perspective. The series has come in several seasons, focusing on the confrontations between Hamas and Israel, along with the military and intelligence details that accompany them. Of course, the Israeli narrative must emphasize all the negatives of Hamas and inflate them to the utmost, portraying it as a national, moral, and humanitarian failure. It is either a savage, brutal killing faction or a treacherous faction that can easily be recruited by Israel. The new season of the series is about the October 7 war, in which Israel devastated everything in the Gaza Strip, turning it into a heap of destruction.
Here, we do not wish to delve into the complexities and implications of what Hamas did that day, opening the gates of hell for Gazans, but we only want to point out how the episodes of the series condensed everything that happened into focusing on a single incident upon which the rest of the dramatic events were built. This incident is the claim that armed Hamas members entered the home of an Israeli internal security member in his absence, killing his children and wife after raping her, causing the rest of the events to explode from this central focal point, relying on it to create a two-faced image of the conflict: the face of Hamas evil and the face of Israeli good, just like that.
Since the outbreak of the Gaza war, I do not recall any notable artistic work that addressed the extreme Israeli brutality except for the film "The Voice of Hind Rjab," by Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania, which won the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 2025. It was indeed a wonderful film, but we have not seen any other work that embodies the historical atrocities committed by Israel. One might say that what was conveyed and documented by satellite screens is enough to prove Israel's crimes. This is true, but drama and cinema have another mission beyond mere transmission and documentation, which is to dive into the details with a different vision and create a narrative from a perspective different from documentation; a professional, creative, and intelligent artistic work employs events to create an indirect narrative that is impactful and remains in memory for a long time.
Israel attempts to establish a certain narrative through such a series and similar artistic works, as a form of soft power tools to claim its victimhood, asserting that what it did was revenge for the killing of unarmed civilians, while it has been exterminating civilians since its inception with unprecedented brutality in human history.
In addition to all the means that condemn Israel's history stained with the blood of innocents, we want artistic works that rise to be testimonies seen by the world in all languages. We want works that refute Israel's chaos.
