I notice that there is a saturation of foreign languages compared to the Arabic language, and while this is acceptable under the pretext that Arabic speakers do not have a technical knowledge product, or because people tend to accept a language when its human products are more present in global markets—technological products that facilitate people's lives—if the Arabic language does not produce what benefits people in their daily lives in terms of useful tools, people will not need to speak it. I see this as an important rule for the world to explore how to learn that language. On another side, there is a contrary stance rejecting the abandonment of the language and replacing it with another global language (such as English, for example). Saudi Arabia is the source of that language and its original home, and it is unwise to replace other languages in speech or on the facades of places; this is considered shameful and represents a tremendous fracture in the structure of society. I have previously said: "Man is the child of his language," which is a simplified definition of the essence and nature of any human being on this planet.
In one of my conversations with an American novelist, we discussed language and how we deal with it as people, and deeply how the mother tongue affects the emotions. It occurred to me while talking to him that the mechanisms of thinking among peoples are fundamentally based on the connotations of the mother tongue within you. I gave an example regarding the way of writing, saying: You write from the left while I write from the right, and this mechanism establishes my thinking based on a certain way, while your thinking is based on a corresponding way. When our languages unify, the language we speak becomes easy for those whose mother tongue is that language. If we take a specific word from my language and yours, that word will be deep in your emotions if it is from your language, while it will not have the same depth in my feelings as you experienced.
I then transitioned to the field of the global status of a language (let's say English) that he speaks fluently, and I asked him: If another language surpasses English and we start speaking it, let’s say Chinese, which has a global product, and that language of the product rises to become a global language, how would this language resonate with your feelings as a novelist? Can you convey your emotions as they are in that language?
He paused for a moment and denied the ability of any other language to convey his feelings as he feels them in his heart.
I mentioned our situation and our dialogue with each other (with a translator between us), noting that our conversation connects us to define what we think, and it is not about conveying the intimacy of what I feel, nor you. This means that his global English language did not convey exactly what he feels with a man who does not master the same language. In our lengthy conversation, we agreed that "man is the child of his language."
All creative arts thrive in their language, and if the global language becomes dominant, let it be in economic aspects. However, for it to be an alternative language to express what struggles within me, that global language will be incapable of fully expressing what I feel.
I speak about the human capacity to express their existence and the existence of their kin. Conversation is an event, even if it is through gestures.
The global language is for exchanging material interests, not for proving your existence and expressing what goes on in your mind as feelings articulated by your mother tongue.
Finally, standing for your existence is a true struggle so that you are not swept away by the demands of the capitalist market.
