At the invitation of the General Supervisor of the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Action, Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, I participated as part of a Saudi media delegation in an official visit to the Syrian Arab Republic, to cover the launch of several Saudi projects for the dear Syrian people, in a humanitarian step that reflects the depth of the Kingdom's commitment to supporting affected populations.
The projects launched during the visit included quality programs and projects in the fields of health, education, food, and shelter, and these efforts are an extension of what the Kingdom has provided over the past years. In his speech during the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah emphasized that Syria has never been absent from the hearts of Saudis, pointing out that these projects come as an extension of the directives of the Saudi leadership, which stressed that what you would not be pleased to offer to Saudis, do not offer to Syrians, in a clear message that reflects the principle of equality and human dignity.
As part of the visit program, a field tour was organized in the areas of Harasta and Jobar, which are close to Damascus and among the most affected areas that have suffered extensive destruction during the years of war. The scene was shocking for me and my colleagues, with dilapidated buildings, almost deserted streets, and the scars of a long-standing conflict etched in every corner, entire neighborhoods completely destroyed. In reality, seeing is not like hearing, and one cannot imagine or comprehend the magnitude of the disaster as we witnessed it.
On the other hand, the humanitarian aspect was strongly present. The Syrians welcomed the Saudi delegation with open hearts, reflecting the level of optimism that fills their souls despite the pain. The features of hope were clear on their faces, and their warmth and hospitality shone through at every stop of the visit, in a scene that reflects the authenticity of the Syrian people and the depth of their culture in facing challenges.
The Presidency of the Syrian Arab Republic also presented welcoming gifts to the Saudi delegation, carrying symbols of Syrian heritage and culture, in a sincere expression of appreciation and respect for the fraternal relations that bind the two peoples.
The message of the visit was clear: the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia does not view Syria solely from a political perspective, but through a broad humanitarian lens that transcends crises to place the human being first. It is a message that reflects the Kingdom's vision for building a future filled with peace, based on partnership, recovery, and hope.
