The Saudi Football Federation announced the dismissal of Ibrahim Al-Qasim from the position of Secretary-General and the appointment of Samir Al-Mahmadi as his successor to lead the upcoming phase, along with the creation of the position of "Secretary of the Judicial Committees" to ensure transparency and enhance the independence of decision-making.
This step clearly reflects that the federation is determined to reorganize its internal affairs and enter a more professional phase.
Beginning of the Crisis
The spark ignited after Al-Hilal withdrew from the Saudi Super Cup, citing a congested schedule due to its participation in the FIFA Club World Cup.
The withdrawal decision did not stop at the boundaries of the tournament but turned into a wide debate that revealed organizational gaps and an urgent need for deeper administrative reforms.
Al-Hilal, the giant of clubs..!
How can a club that classifies itself as a giant sign a long-term contract with a player knowing in advance that he will soon exceed the legal age, and then object when the player moves out of the birth category?
Here, Al-Hilal tries to portray the matter as a "regulatory conspiracy," in stark contradiction to its long history and vast experience in dealing with federation regulations. Al-Hilal knows better than anyone that the rules are fixed and that the age criterion does not change or get adjusted according to a club's desires or the circumstances of a season.
The truth is clear
The regulations were announced from the beginning, as any player approaching the age of becoming a "big professional" cannot continue in the birth category.
Thus, the problem is not with the regulations but with the technical planning of the clubs and the ill-considered decisions.
Contradiction and Double Standards
Al-Hilal objected because it was forced to rearrange its roster, not because the decision was unfair or illogical. While spending millions on massive foreign signings, it objects to the federation's strategy aimed at building the future of the league, and here the contradiction appears, as self-interest overshadowed principle.
Where is the courage of the giants?
The fear of taking risks is not a trait of major clubs. Al-Hilal was supposed to be bolder in injecting new talents instead of clinging to names that have been surpassed by time. Its insistence on veteran players reflects an unjustified resistance to renewal, as if it wants a league tailored to its size rather than a competitive league that serves everyone.
The public interest first
The decisions are not directed against Al-Hilal or anyone else; they are part of a long-term strategy to create a new generation of stars and raise the marketing and technical value of the league. Al-Hilal is dealing with the issue from the perspective of its own interests, but the truth is that Saudi football faces major challenges that require clubs to be part of the solution, not part of the obstruction.
The Saudi league is experiencing a phase of building global competitiveness, and what it needs today is the concerted efforts of major clubs, not the creation of crises. Here, Al-Hilal may gain temporary media attention, but it will lose real competition on the field.
The bet now is on the future of Saudi football to be stronger and more effective on the global stage.
