The immense and ongoing development in Mecca and the holy sites imposes a reality that it is not only the media that conveys the honorable image of the Kingdom during this renaissance, but there are millions of cameras roaming on foot, through the pilgrims and their eyes that marvel at those monumental projects every year. It is true that the media, in all its forms, plays a crucial and important role, and it has a national and professional responsibility to keep up with this grand annual event. However, we are now in an era where every person can record their impressions and broadcast them through social media platforms that are followed by most of the world's population.
Those pilgrims are our ambassadors to the world and our implicit journalists, as they return to their homes laden with many spiritual memories and the unique experience of this country in managing and serving the largest annual Islamic conference on earth.
They have witnessed firsthand (through their cameras) the quality of the experience, from upscale transportation and top-level health services to real-time security monitoring, and tens of thousands of individuals and supporting institutions that tirelessly and selflessly serve them with cheerful faces and generous, forgiving souls like the people of this blessed land.
In truth, our media, through the development it has witnessed in thought, vision, planning, and high-level professional and technical staff, makes commendable efforts to convey the details of what happens during Hajj and what is new each year. However, as I mentioned earlier, the achievements are greater than keeping up with all its details accurately, and the pilgrim (the fair-minded one) remains the primary journalist during Hajj!
