Vietnam recorded the highest average temperatures for the month of October since records began in 1961, with a nationwide average of 26.3 degrees Celsius, exceeding the usual average for the same period by about 1.74 degrees, amidst record levels being recorded at dozens of weather stations.
Significant Rise in the North of the Country
The National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting explained that temperatures during October were higher than the long-term average by about one to two degrees in most parts of Vietnam, while the difference in the northern regions rose to between two and three degrees.
In some southern areas, the increase ranged from half a degree to one degree Celsius, reflecting the varying impact of the warm wave across different regions of the country.
Dozens of Stations Record Record Levels
During the month, 61 weather stations recorded daily maximum temperatures that equaled or exceeded the historical figures for the same period.
Additionally, 98 stations recorded monthly averages that reached or surpassed their previous record levels, including 87 stations in northern Vietnam alone.
Several areas experienced unusual temperatures for this time of year at the beginning of October, with some stations exceeding 37 degrees Celsius, and the "Muong Te" station recorded 38 degrees, while "Yen Chau" reached 38.3 degrees, surpassing previous record figures for October.
Higher Temperatures Expected in November
Forecasts from the Vietnamese National Center indicate that the warmer-than-usual conditions are expected to continue into November, with the nationwide average temperature anticipated to increase by about one to two degrees Celsius above long-term averages, while cold air waves are expected to be weaker than usual during the month.
These figures come at a time when Vietnam is experiencing strong effects from the "El Niño" phenomenon, which is typically associated with rising temperatures and changing rainfall patterns in the region, amid warnings of continued warmer conditions in the coming months.
