The United States informed the mediators today (Tuesday) of its approval of the proposed plan to end the war, while the parties await Iran's response to the initiative it received yesterday, amid ongoing disagreements over the terms of the agreement and limited military escalation between Washington and Tehran.
Arab media reported that sources indicated the mediators are waiting for the Iranian response to the American proposal, while Tehran emphasized the necessity of fully meeting its conditions, asserting that stopping the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, is a fundamental requirement for any agreement.
For his part, Iranian National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei stated that the American response to the proposal is unconvincing, demanding that Washington provide a complete and clear answer to the seven Iranian conditions.
Rezaei added that his country is waiting for a clear stance that guarantees the fulfillment of its demands, stressing that any agreement will not be acceptable unless those conditions are fully met.
On another note, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baqaei confirmed the continuation of Qatari mediation efforts, explaining that Doha is conveying the views of Tehran and Washington in the framework of efforts aimed at reaching an agreement.
Baqaei emphasized the necessity of meeting the Iranian conditions, asserting that stopping the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, is a fundamental requirement for reaching an understanding.
In contrast, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that American forces carried out a limited strike on an Iranian air defense facility last night, after monitoring it for two months, confirming its destruction as soon as it was completed.
Trump stated in remarks to Fox News that the attack does not represent a wide-scale war, and that the United States continuously monitors Iranian nuclear facilities, warning of new strikes if any party attempts to reach them.
He added that Washington does not seek to kill large numbers of Iranians, but will take necessary actions if required, asserting that his country has complete control over the situation.
The U.S. President pointed out that the United States can eliminate what remains of Iran's capabilities, but also has the option to avoid thousands of casualties, noting that Iran is now in the position that Washington wants, with the possibility of carrying out further strikes if it decides to do so.
Trump emphasized the need to achieve greater gains than what the United States obtained from Venezuela, in remarks reflecting the continued American pressure alongside diplomatic efforts.
