The Dutch Crown Princess Amalia continued to enhance her presence in the military institution, after being granted the rank of Sergeant in the Dutch Armed Forces, in a new step within her training journey that combines academic qualification and military service.
The Dutch royal court announced the granting of the rank to Princess Amalia during a ceremony held aboard the sailing ship (Statsraad Lemkuhl) in the port of Den Helder, where the Crown Princess is participating in a military training program that she began last year in preparation for her future responsibilities.
Amalia is currently serving in the ranks of the Royal Netherlands Navy and recently participated in a training cruise aboard the historic ship (Statsraad Lemkuhl) alongside first-year students at the naval academy. The ship, which was built in Norway in 1914, is one of the most prominent training platforms regularly used by the Dutch Navy.
The promotion came after months of the princess completing an advanced course in general field military training, which she finished last August, as part of a series of programs she undertook within the Dutch Ministry of Defense, in addition to previous training periods in the Royal Air Force.
The royal court in The Hague announced in September 2025 that Amalia had started a comprehensive military program, where she joined - at that time - the navy, army, and air force with an initial military rank, while continuing her university studies in law in Amsterdam.
This step carries a special significance within the Dutch royal family, as Amalia is the first woman from the ruling family to perform actual military service in the ranks of the armed forces, in a path that reflects an increasing trend towards combining royal duties with field institutional experience.
