JFK International Airport in New York experienced delays in international passenger arrival procedures early Sunday morning due to a malfunction in the U.S. Customs and Border Protection management system, causing congestion inside the airport terminals.
The airport explained, via its account on the "X" platform, that the malfunction affected the screening procedures for incoming travelers from abroad, warning of longer than usual wait times.
In a later update, the airport announced that the systems had resumed normal operations, noting that some delays might continue until passenger screening procedures return to their usual pace.
