لقي 17 شخصاً مقتلهم، بينهم اثنان من كبار مسؤولي القضاء العسكري، إثر تحطم طائرة خفيفة في مدينة كينغي بمقاطعة كوانغو جنوب غربي جمهورية الكونغو الديمقراطية، بحسب وزارة النقل والسلطات المحلية.
وكانت الطائرة من طراز Let 410 UVP، التابعة لشركة Tracep Congo Aviation، في رحلة من مدينة كيكويت إلى العاصمة كينشاسا، عندما تحطمت، (الجمعة)، في منطقة سكنية بمدينة كينغي واشتعلت فيها النيران. وأفادت وزارة النقل بأن الضحايا هم 13 راكباً وأربعة من أفراد الطاقم.
مسؤولان بارزان بين الضحايا
وأكد الجيش الكونغولي أن من بين الضحايا الفريق جوزيف موتومبو كاتالايي تييندي، رئيس المحكمة العسكرية العليا، والفريق لوسيان رينيه ليكوليا باكومي، المدعي العام للقوات المسلحة لدى المحكمة العسكرية العليا. وكان المسؤولان عائدين ضمن وفد من مهمة رسمية في كيكويت.
وقال نائب حاكم مقاطعة كوانغو ريمي ساكي إن الطائرة واجهت مشكلة أثناء تحليقها فوق كينغي، وحاول قائدها البحث عن مكان للهبوط، قبل أن تسقط في قطعة أرض بمنطقة سكنية. ولم تشر المعلومات الأولية إلى وقوع ضحايا على الأرض.
وكانت السلطات قد أعلنت في البداية مقتل 13 شخصاً، قبل أن يرتفع العدد إلى 17 قتيلاً، بينهم 16 بالغاً وطفل رضيع، بعد السيطرة على الحريق واستكمال عمليات البحث في حطام الطائرة.
تعليق عمليات الشركة
وعقب الحادث، أمر وزير النقل الكونغولي جان بيير بيمبا بتعليق عمليات شركة Tracep Congo Aviation في جميع أنحاء البلاد وسحب شهادة المشغل الجوي منها مؤقتاً، إلى حين انتهاء التحقيقات. وأشارت إذاعة الأمم المتحدة في الكونغو إلى أن الشركة تعرضت لحادث آخر قبل نحو شهرين.
ووجّه الرئيس الكونغولي فيليكس تشيسيكيدي السلطات المختصة بإجراء تحقيق شامل لتحديد الظروف والأسباب الدقيقة للحادث، فيما أرسل مكتب التحقيق الدائم في حوادث ووقائع الطيران فريقاً من المحققين إلى موقع التحطم.
Seventeen people were killed, including two senior officials of the military judiciary, when a light aircraft crashed in the city of Kenge in the Kwango province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to the Ministry of Transport and local authorities.
The aircraft, a Let 410 UVP, belonging to Tracep Congo Aviation, was on a flight from the city of Kikwit to the capital Kinshasa when it crashed (on Friday) in a residential area of Kenge and caught fire. The Ministry of Transport reported that the victims included 13 passengers and four crew members.
Two prominent officials among the victims
The Congolese army confirmed that among the victims were General Joseph Mutombo Katalaï Tienti, the President of the High Military Court, and General Lucien René Likoulia Bakumi, the Prosecutor General of the Armed Forces at the High Military Court. The officials were returning as part of a delegation from an official mission in Kikwit.
The Deputy Governor of Kwango Province, Remy Saki, stated that the aircraft encountered a problem while flying over Kenge and the pilot attempted to find a place to land before it crashed onto a plot of land in a residential area. Initial reports did not indicate any casualties on the ground.
Authorities initially announced 13 fatalities, but the number later rose to 17 dead, including 16 adults and an infant, after the fire was brought under control and search operations in the wreckage were completed.
Suspension of the company's operations
Following the incident, Congolese Transport Minister Jean-Pierre Bemba ordered the suspension of Tracep Congo Aviation's operations nationwide and temporarily revoked its air operator certificate until investigations are completed. United Nations Radio in Congo reported that the company had experienced another incident about two months ago.
Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi directed the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances and causes of the accident, while the Permanent Bureau of Aviation Accident Investigation sent a team of investigators to the crash site.
