U.S. President Donald Trump announced his rejection of the Iranian proposal, asserting that Tehran wants to reach an agreement, but he described the proposed offer as "unacceptable," while emphasizing that the United States has complete control over the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump said: "Iran wants an agreement, and I also like making deals, but the proposal is unacceptable," confirming that large quantities of oil pass through the Strait of Hormuz, and that 29 ships crossed it last night.
He added: "We are achieving a great victory and have complete control over the Strait of Hormuz."
Iran has put itself in a predicament
Trump escalated his rhetoric towards Tehran, considering that it has put itself in a predicament by closing the Strait of Hormuz, stating: "We have imposed the largest blockade in military history."
He confirmed that Iran no longer has money due to the closure of the strait, adding: "We have imposed a steel wall around the Strait of Hormuz."
He pointed out that Tehran wants to reopen the strait immediately because it is incurring "heavy losses," while at the same time confirming his rejection of an agreement that Iran wants to reopen trade immediately, as it is, in his words, "incurring significant losses."
Economic pressure
In a related context, media sources reported an American source saying that Trump believes economic pressure is "more beneficial" than an agreement with Iran on its proposed terms.
The source added that Trump believes lifting economic sanctions on Iran would give it "an opportunity to maneuver," and that he informed the negotiating team that they cannot return to the memorandum of understanding with Tehran.
According to the same source, Trump informed his team that "no Iranian agreement first," considering that the Iranian negotiators "are not decision-makers."
Aerial strikes after the elections
Al-Arabiya reported from an American source that Trump is inclined to carry out aerial strikes on Iran after the elections, coinciding with tightening the blockade.
