A judge in New York sentenced former film producer Harvey Weinstein to 15 years in prison on Wednesday after he was convicted of sexually assaulting a former production assistant in 2006, following a retrial in the case.
The jury found Weinstein, 74, guilty in June 2025 of first-degree sexual offense against Miriam Haley, after he assaulted her in his Manhattan apartment.
The ruling comes at the end of a legal journey that spanned 6 years, during which New York's highest court overturned a previous conviction of Weinstein in 2020, concluding that the trial did not meet the required standards of justice.
Weinstein has continued to deny any sexual assault or engaging in sex without the other party's consent.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg praised Haley's testimony, expressing his appreciation for her bravery during the legal proceedings, according to Reuters.
For his part, a spokesperson for Weinstein stated that the former producer still maintains his innocence and strongly objects to the ruling made by Judge Curtis Farber.
Weinstein was first convicted in New York in 2020 for assaulting Haley and for raping aspiring actress Jessica Mann, receiving a 23-year prison sentence at that time. However, the state's highest court overturned the sentence in 2024, leading to a retrial.
During the retrial in 2025, jurors convicted Weinstein on the charge related to Haley, while acquitting him of the charge of assaulting former model Kaja Sokola, and they were unable to reach a decision on the rape charge related to Mann.
In May, a third trial regarding the charge linked to Mann ended without a verdict, before prosecutors dropped the charge the following month after Mann indicated she did not wish to testify in a fourth trial.
