Meta has announced the expansion of AI agents' presence within the "WhatsApp Business" environment, through tools that allow developers to utilize these systems in executing parts of service setup and management. This move reflects a rapidly accelerating trend towards granting artificial intelligence executive roles that go beyond the boundaries of conversation and content generation.
The new tools rely on the "MCP" protocol, allowing the connection of several programming and AI assistants to the "WhatsApp Business" platform, enabling them to assist with some technical tasks related to service configuration.
The importance of this step lies in reducing the distance between the user and complex technical tools; the AI agent transitions from providing guidance to assisting in completing actual steps within the work environment, a shift that could save time and effort for developers and companies.
This trend comes at a time when tech companies are racing to develop "agents" capable of executing a series of tasks more independently, making messaging applications candidates for gradually transforming from channels for customer communication to broader platforms for managing operations and digital services.
