يواجه رجل إيطالي احتمال السجن بعدما عثرت السلطات على رأس تمساح مجفف داخل حقيبته لدى وصوله إلى مطار تورينو قادمًا من الولايات المتحدة.
وأوقفت سلطات الجمارك الرجل لتفتيش أمتعته عقب وصوله على متن رحلة انطلقت من ميامي مرورًا بإسطنبول، قبل أن تكشف عملية التفتيش الرأس ملفوفًا بورق تغليف عادي داخل الحقيبة، وفقًا لوكالة إنفاذ القانون الإيطالية (غوارديا دي فينانزا).
وأوضحت الوكالة أن التمساح ينتمي إلى نوع مهدد بالانقراض، ومدرج ضمن الأنواع المحمية بموجب اتفاقية التجارة الدولية في الأنواع المهددة بالانقراض من الحيوانات والنباتات البرية (CITES).
وبحسب السلطات، فإن نقل أجزاء من الحيوانات المحمية عبر الحدود من دون التصاريح المطلوبة يمثل مخالفة للقوانين المنظمة لحماية الأنواع المهددة بالانقراض، ما قد يعرّض الرجل للملاحقة القضائية وعقوبات تصل إلى السجن.
An Italian man faces the possibility of imprisonment after authorities found a dried crocodile head inside his suitcase upon his arrival at Turin Airport from the United States.
Customs authorities stopped the man to inspect his luggage after he arrived on a flight that originated in Miami, passing through Istanbul, before the inspection revealed the head wrapped in ordinary packaging inside the suitcase, according to the Italian law enforcement agency (Guardia di Finanza).
The agency clarified that the crocodile belongs to a species threatened with extinction and is listed among the protected species under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
According to the authorities, transporting parts of protected animals across borders without the required permits constitutes a violation of the laws regulating the protection of endangered species, which could expose the man to prosecution and penalties of up to imprisonment.
