For a moment, an Israeli traveler thought he had crossed the safe harbor and confidently passed through the "green lane" designated for arrivals who carry no goods subject to duties or prohibited materials. However, the looks of suspicion from the customs officers in Jordan were the first step towards uncovering the crime.
The traveler, arriving from a trip to Thailand, was taken to the thorough inspection table, turning the following moments into a shocking revelation of what he was trying to smuggle. Upon opening the bags, the inspectors encountered materials that Jordanian law prohibits from being cleared locally and forbids entry of, leading to a detailed inspection that uncovered a controversial shipment:
- 28 pieces of various sexual toys.
- 15 containers of high-impact sexual stimulants.
- 15 containers of prohibited sexual honey.
The Jordanian authorities estimated the value of the seized items at about 600 dinars, while the taxes and fees owed amounted to hundreds of dinars, prompting the customs public prosecution to immediately initiate proceedings against the Israeli traveler, charging him with serious offenses related to customs smuggling and tax evasion.
The court initially issued a default judgment against him, convicting the defendant of customs smuggling and imposing penalties and customs fines exceeding 2000 dinars, along with the immediate confiscation of all seized goods.
However, the story did not end there, as the smuggler rejected the default judgment and filed an official appeal through an objection, standing once again before the court, denying the charges against him, and requesting a final security extension to escape the guillotine of conviction.
As the case was heading towards a final ruling, a surprising official letter arrived at the court, resolving the controversy and closing the file! The letter from the Customs Department stated that an official settlement had occurred and a reconciliation contract had been signed after fulfilling all fines related to the case, urgently requesting the dismissal of the criminal case and all civil consequences arising from it.
Therefore, the court, after reviewing the provisions of the customs law that allows for reconciliation in smuggling crimes before or during the trial, officially decided to dismiss the criminal case and all its civil effects, concluding one of the most mysterious and controversial smuggling cases under the reconciliation contract.
