ارتفعت حصيلة ضحايا الفيضانات والانهيارات الطينية التي اجتاحت مناطق حدودية بين نيبال والصين، إلى 1375 شخصًا.
وأفادت السلطات المحلية في نيبال بأن 1344 شخصًا لقوا مصرعهم جرّاء الفيضانات، في حين لا يزال 4898 آخرون في عداد المفقودين، مشيرة إلى أنه تم جمع 2232 عينة من الحمض النووي للمساعدة في عمليات التعرف على الضحايا.
وعلى الجانب الصيني، لقي ما لا يقل عن 31 شخصًا مصرعهم وفُقد أثر 531 آخرين في منطقة التبّت، ليصل بذلك إجمالي عدد الوفيات الناجمة عن الكارثة إلى 1375 شخصًا، فضلًا عن 5429 شخصًا في عداد المفقودين.
وأطلقت الأمم المتحدة وشركاؤها في المجال الإنساني نداءً عاجلًا لجمع 49.6 مليون دولار؛ بهدف تقديم مساعدات منقذة للحياة للمتضررين من الفيضانات في نيبال.
وكان انهيار جليدي قد تسبّب في اندفاع سيل من الجليد والصخور والطين عبر نهر تريشولي في المنطقة الحدودية بين نيبال والصين في السادس والعشرين من أغسطس الماضي، ما أدى إلى جرف وتدمير الكثير من المدن والقرى وألحق أضرارًا واسعة بالطرق والبنية التحتية.
The death toll from the floods and landslides that swept through border areas between Nepal and China has risen to 1,375 people.
Local authorities in Nepal reported that 1,344 people have died due to the floods, while 4,898 others are still missing, noting that 2,232 DNA samples have been collected to assist in the identification of the victims.
On the Chinese side, at least 31 people have died and 531 others are missing in the Tibet region, bringing the total number of fatalities from the disaster to 1,375, in addition to 5,429 people missing.
The United Nations and its humanitarian partners have launched an urgent appeal to raise $49.6 million to provide life-saving assistance to those affected by the floods in Nepal.
A landslide had caused a rush of ice, rocks, and mud through the Trishuli River in the border area between Nepal and China on August 26, leading to the sweeping away and destruction of many towns and villages and causing extensive damage to roads and infrastructure.
