زادت حصيلة ضحايا الفيضانات العارمة والانهيارات الطينية التي ضربت نيبال، أخيراً، إلى 987 شخصاً.
وأفادت هيئة إدارة الكوارث في نيبال ببيان اليوم، أن 987 شخصاً لقوا مقتلهم جرّاء الكارثة التي وقعت يوم 26 أغسطس الماضي، مشيرة إلى أن 3916 شخصاً لا يزالون في عداد المفقودين.
وأضافت السلطات النيبالية -في آخر تحديث لها بشأن ضحايا الكارثة- أنه جرى إنقاذ نحو 12 ألف شخص تقريباً، فيما أصيب 279 آخرون في أعقاب الفيضانات المدمرة.
انهيار جليدي وتدفق للحطام
وتابع البيان، أن فرق الإنقاذ نجحت حتى الآن في إنقاذ 11,814 شخصاً، حيث نفّذ الجيش النيبالي 573 طلعة جوية بالمروحيات، منها 12 طلعة اليوم، أنقذت 3,449 نيبالياً و253 أجنبياً، إضافة إلى 29 رحلة جوية تابعة للقطاع الخاص من كاتماندو.
وجرفت الفيضانات والانهيارات الطينية المفاجئة عدة قرى وألحقت أضراراً بالطرق والبنية التحتية، فيما أكَّدت هيئة المسح الجيولوجي الأمريكية أن الكارثة نجمت عن انهيار جليدي وتدفق للحطام.
وكان وزير المالية النيبالي سوارنيم واجل، قدّر -في وقت سابق- بأن البلاد تحتاج إلى ما بين 4 إلى 5 مليارات دولار لإعادة الإعمار في أعقاب الفيضانات الكارثية.
The death toll from the devastating floods and landslides that recently struck Nepal has risen to 987 people.
The Nepal Disaster Management Authority reported today that 987 people have died as a result of the disaster that occurred on August 26, indicating that 3,916 people are still missing.
The Nepali authorities added in their latest update regarding the victims of the disaster that nearly 12,000 people have been rescued, while 279 others were injured following the destructive floods.
Avalanche and Debris Flow
The statement continued that rescue teams have successfully rescued 11,814 people so far, with the Nepali army conducting 573 helicopter sorties, including 12 today, rescuing 3,449 Nepalis and 253 foreigners, in addition to 29 private flights from Kathmandu.
The floods and sudden landslides have swept away several villages and caused damage to roads and infrastructure, while the U.S. Geological Survey confirmed that the disaster resulted from an avalanche and debris flow.
The Nepali Finance Minister, Swarnim Wagle, had previously estimated that the country needs between 4 to 5 billion dollars for reconstruction following the catastrophic floods.
