أعلنت الشرطة البريطانية مصرع رجل يبلغ من العمر 41 عاماً وإصابة ستة آخرين على الأقل، إثر انهيار مفاجئ بلافتة كبيرة في مهرجان «بيغ تشيرش» المقام بحدائق «ويستون بارك» في مقاطعة غرب ساسكس، مساء الجمعة.
وتلقت شرطة ساسكس بلاغاً بالحادثة لتتوجه فوراً إلى موقع الفعالية الواقعة قرب بلدة ستينينغ، حيث فارق الضحية، وهو من سكان مدينة إيستبورن، الحياة في مكان الحادثة، بينما جرى نقل المصابين الستة إلى المستشفى لتلقي العلاج اللازم.
وعقب وقوع الكارثة، أعلن منظمو المهرجان إلغاء ما تبقى من فعاليات الحدث الذي انطلقت نسخته الحالية يوم الجمعة وتذاكره المباعة بالكامل، وكان مقررًا أن يستمر حتى الأحد. من جانبه، أكد كبير المفتشين ريتشارد ماكدونا حجم الصدمة والمعاناة التي خلفتها الحادثة بين الحاضرين، داعياً آلاف الشهود ومن لديهم مقاطع مصورة إلى التقدم بمعلوماتهم لمساعدة السلطات في جلاء ملابسات الواقعة.
The British police announced the death of a 41-year-old man and the injury of at least six others following a sudden collapse of a large sign at the "Big Church" festival held at Weston Park in West Sussex County on Friday evening.
