تخيل أن تتحول الجنة السياحية الأكثر هدوءًا وجاذبية إلى مسرح لفيلم رعب غامض! هذا ما يعيشه سكان وزوار جزيرة «جيجو» في كوريا الجنوبية، بعد أن ساد الصمت والذهول إثر العثور على جثث 4 أشخاص مفقودين خلال 72 ساعة فقط، لتبدأ معها كوابيس تتحدث عن وجود «قاتل متسلسل» يتجول في الخفاء.
ورغم عدم صدور بيان رسمي يؤكد وجود جريمة منظمة، إلا أن العثور المتتالي على الضحايا فتح أبواب التكهنات على منصات التواصل الاجتماعي:
- جانغ مي ران (37 عامًا): وُجدت جثتها هامدة داخل مزرعة نخيل تبعد 500 متر فقط عن مكان إقامتها، وذلك بعد 104 أيام من اختفائها في ظروف غامضة.
- رجل في الستينيات: عُثر عليه بعد مرور 50 يومًا على بلاغ فقدانه.
- رجل سبعيني: انتشل أحد الصيادين جثته من البحر.
- ضحية رابعة: عُثر عليها مجهولة الهوية بالقرب من وادٍ في منطقة «آيوول إيوب».
وبينما كان الذعر يلتهم أزقة الجزيرة ويتسبب في إلغاء العشرات لرحلاتهم السياحية لشهر سبتمبر، فجرت التحقيقات مفاجأة هزت الجهاز الأمني، حيث تم اعتقال ضابط شرطة يبلغ من العمر 35 عامًا، يُدعى «بو»، بعد توجيه اتهامات خطيرة له بالتزوير والإهمال الجسيم لإغلاق ملفات المفقودين قبل الأوان والإيحاء بالتواصل مع الضحايا خلافًا للحقيقة.
هذه التجاوزات الصادمة دفعت الرئيس الكوري الجنوبي لي جيه ميونغ للتدخل المباشر في اجتماع مجلس الوزراء، محذرًا من أن «انعدام المسؤولية داخل الشرطة أصبح مشكلة خطيرة»، ليأمر بإطلاق مراجعة شاملة لأكثر من 118 ألف بلاغ مفقود تم إغلاقه سابقًا في العاصمة سيؤول وبوسان.

Although no official statement has confirmed the existence of organized crime, the sequential discovery of the victims has opened the doors to speculation on social media:
- Jang Mi-ran (37 years old): Her lifeless body was found inside a palm farm just 500 meters from her residence, after 104 days of her mysterious disappearance.
- A man in his sixties: He was found 50 days after a missing person report was filed.
- A seventy-year-old man: His body was retrieved from the sea by a fisherman.
- A fourth victim: She was found unidentified near a valley in the Aewol-eup area.
While panic consumed the island's alleys and caused dozens to cancel their trips for September, the investigations revealed a shocking surprise that shook the security apparatus, as a 35-year-old police officer named "Boo" was arrested after serious charges were leveled against him for forgery and gross negligence in prematurely closing missing persons cases and falsely suggesting contact with the victims.
These shocking transgressions prompted South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol to intervene directly in a cabinet meeting, warning that "the lack of accountability within the police has become a serious problem," and ordering a comprehensive review of more than 118,000 closed missing person reports in the capital cities of Seoul and Busan.
