سجَّلت اليونان منذ بداية العام الحالي 19 حالة وفاة بفايروس «غرب النيل» وإصابة 232 شخصًا.
وذكرت هيئة الصحة العامة باليونان، أن عدد الإصابات بالفايروس يواصل الارتفاع بنحو أربعة أضعاف منذ نهاية يوليو، وأن أغلب الحالات سُجِّلت أمس في منطقة أثينا الكبرى.
وينتقل فايروس «غرب النيل» إلى الإنسان من خلال البعوض المصاب، ولا تظهر أعراضه، وتحدث الإصابات الشديدة بين كبار السن والأشخاص المصابين بأمراض معينة، ولا يتوفر حتى الآن لقاح أو علاج محدد للوقاية منه أو علاجه.
Greece has recorded 19 deaths from the "West Nile" virus and 232 infections since the beginning of this year.
The Greek public health authority reported that the number of infections has continued to rise by about four times since the end of July, with most cases recorded yesterday in the greater Athens area.
The "West Nile" virus is transmitted to humans through infected mosquitoes, and symptoms do not appear in most cases. Severe infections occur among the elderly and individuals with certain medical conditions, and there is currently no vaccine or specific treatment available for its prevention or treatment.
