حذر علماء متخصصون من أن البشرية تتجه نحو الانهيار والذوبان والانتهاء، وأن على البشر أن يتحركوا سريعاً لإنقاذ أنفسهم ووجودهم في هذا العالم.
وبحسب التحذير فإن التغير المناخي الذي يشهده العالم سيؤدي إلى «انهيار الحضارة وانتهاء البشرية»، وذلك في ظل الضغوط المتزايدة التي يواجهها البشر نتيجة للظروف المتغيرة على كوكبنا، وذلك بحسب تقرير نشرته جريدة «ديلي ستار» Daily Star البريطانية، اطلعت عليه «العربية.نت».
ووفقاً للتقرير، فإن العلماء أشاروا إلى وجود نقاط تحول عالمية متعددة تقترب من عتبات خطيرة قد تؤدي إلى كارثة تهدد الوجود كجنس بشري.
الاحتباس الحراري
وبحسب التقرير، تشمل أكثر المحطات كارثية التي توشك الأرض على بلوغها: انهيار غابات الأمازون المطيرة، والذوبان الكامل للغطاء الجليدي القطبي، وارتفاع درجات الحرارة العالمية.
ويشير العلماء إلى أنه يمكن لهذه العوامل، مقترنة بالنمو السكاني الهائل، أن تؤدي إلى وقوع كارثة. حيث سيؤدي ذوبان الصفائح الجليدية إلى ارتفاع منسوب مياه البحر، مما يقلص مساحة الأراضي الصالحة لسكن البشر في وقت تتزايد فيه الأعداد، دافعاً السكان للنزوح نحو المناطق الداخلية.
كما سيجعل ارتفاع درجات الحرارة مساحات شاسعة من العالم غير صالحة للسكن، مما يضطر «لاجئي المناخ» إلى الانتقال مجدداً، في حين أن تدمير غابات الأمازون وغيرها من الغابات المطيرة سيسرّع من وتيرة الاحتباس الحراري للكوكب.

According to the report, the most catastrophic milestones that the Earth is about to reach include: the collapse of the Amazon rainforest, the complete melting of the polar ice caps, and the rise in global temperatures.
Scientists indicate that these factors, coupled with the massive population growth, could lead to a disaster. The melting of ice sheets will result in rising sea levels, reducing the amount of land suitable for human habitation at a time when numbers are increasing, forcing populations to migrate inland.
Additionally, rising temperatures will make vast areas of the world uninhabitable, forcing "climate refugees" to relocate again, while the destruction of the Amazon rainforest and other rainforests will accelerate the pace of global warming.
