تسبّب طفل صغير في إلغاء رحلة جوية تابعة لشركة بورتر إيرلاينز الكندية، بعدما رفض الجلوس في مقعده وربط حزام الأمان قبل الإقلاع، رغم محاولات والده وطاقم الطائرة تهدئته، ما دفع قائد الرحلة إلى العودة إلى بوابة المغادرة وإنزال الركاب.
ووقعت الحادثة مساء الخميس 6 أغسطس 2026، على متن الرحلة رقم PD444، التي كانت تستعد للمغادرة من مطار فيكتوريا الدولي في مدينة فيكتوريا بمقاطعة بريتيش كولومبيا، متجهة إلى مطار تورونتو بيرسون الدولي.
وبحسب تقارير إعلامية كندية، فقد كانت الطائرة قد غادرت مبنى الركاب وتوجهت نحو المدرج استعداداً للإقلاع، قبل أن يقف الطفل على مقعده ويرفض ربط حزام الأمان.
وحاول والده وطاقم الطائرة إقناعه بالجلوس وربط الحزام، لكن المحاولات لم تنجح، ما جعل الإقلاع في ظل هذه الظروف مخالفاً لمتطلبات السلامة.
وقال أحد الركاب، أرييه كوزوتش، لشبكة «سي بي سي نيوز»، إن الطفل كان يختبئ باستمرار أسفل مقعده، مضيفاً أنه عندما كان يتم وضع حزام الأمان عليه، كان ينزلق من تحته ويخرج من مكانه.
وقالت راكبة أخرى، هيلاري هيرتزبرغ، إن التعامل مع الموقف استغرق وقتاً طويلاً، مشيرة إلى أن الطفل غادر الطائرة في نهاية المطاف عند نحو الساعة 11:30 مساءً، بعدما ظل الركاب على متنها لفترة قاربت الساعة.
وبعد فشل محاولات حل المشكلة، قرر طاقم الطائرة العودة إلى مبنى الركاب وإنزال الطفل ووالده.
لكن التأخير الذي حدث جعل استكمال الرحلة أمراً غير عملي، إذ كان يتعين إعادة ربط الطائرة بجسر الركاب، وإنزال الطفل ووالده، واستعادة أمتعتهما واستكمال الإجراءات اللازمة، بينما كان مدرج المطار يقترب من موعد إغلاقه المحدد عند الساعة 12:30 بعد منتصف الليل.
وبناءً على ذلك، تقرر إلغاء الرحلة بالكامل، واضطر بقية الركاب إلى مغادرة الطائرة وقضاء الليل في بريتيش كولومبيا، قبل إعادة حجز رحلات بديلة لهم في اليوم التالي.
وقال براد سيسيرو، المتحدث باسم شركة بورتر إيرلاينز، إن الطائرة كانت قد غادرت مبنى الركاب وتوجهت إلى المدرج عندما وقف الطفل على مقعده ورفض ربط حزام الأمان.
وأضاف أن محاولات الوالد وطاقم الطائرة للتعامل مع الموقف لم تنجح، مؤكداً أن الطائرة لم يكن من الممكن أن تقلع في ظل ظروف اعتُبرت غير آمنة.
وقدمت الشركة اعتذارها للركاب عن الإزعاج الذي تسبب فيه إلغاء الرحلة، مؤكدة أنها أعادت حجزهم على رحلة أخرى في اليوم التالي.
ورغم أن الواقعة بدت غير اعتيادية، فإن قرار عدم الإقلاع في ظل عدم التزام أحد الركاب، حتى لو كان طفلاً، بإجراءات السلامة يعكس أولوية قواعد السلامة الجوية على موعد الرحلة، مهما كانت العواقب التشغيلية.

The incident occurred on the evening of Thursday, August 6, 2026, on flight PD444, which was preparing to depart from Victoria International Airport in Victoria, British Columbia, heading to Toronto Pearson International Airport.
According to Canadian media reports, the plane had left the terminal and was taxiing towards the runway in preparation for takeoff when the child stood on his seat and refused to fasten his seatbelt.
His father and the flight crew tried to convince him to sit down and buckle up, but their efforts were unsuccessful, making takeoff under these circumstances a violation of safety requirements.
One passenger, Arieh Kozuch, told CBC News that the child was constantly hiding under his seat, adding that when the seatbelt was placed on him, he would slip out from underneath it and get out of position.
Another passenger, Hilary Hertzberg, said that dealing with the situation took a long time, noting that the child eventually left the plane around 11:30 PM after the passengers had been on board for nearly an hour.
After attempts to resolve the issue failed, the flight crew decided to return to the terminal and disembark the child and his father.
However, the delay made it impractical to continue the flight, as the plane would need to be reconnected to the passenger bridge, the child and his father disembarked, their luggage retrieved, and the necessary procedures completed, all while the airport runway was approaching its scheduled closing time at 12:30 AM.
As a result, the flight was completely canceled, and the remaining passengers had to leave the plane and spend the night in British Columbia before being rebooked on alternative flights the following day.
Brad Cicero, a spokesperson for Porter Airlines, stated that the plane had left the terminal and was heading to the runway when the child stood on his seat and refused to fasten his seatbelt.
He added that the attempts by the father and the flight crew to handle the situation were unsuccessful, emphasizing that the plane could not take off under conditions deemed unsafe.
The airline apologized to the passengers for the inconvenience caused by the flight cancellation, confirming that they had rebooked them on another flight the next day.
Although the incident seemed unusual, the decision not to take off in the absence of compliance from a passenger, even if it was a child, reflects the priority of aviation safety rules over the flight schedule, regardless of the operational consequences.
