في واحدة من أغرب حوادث السرقة التي شهدتها ولاية ويسكونسن الأمريكية، نجحت امرأة في التسلل إلى محطة إطفاء وسرقة شاحنة دون أن ينتبه لها أحد، لكن «طلب الطعام» عبر جهاز اللاسلكي التابع للقسم كان الكفيل بإنهاء مغامرتها وسقوطها في قبضة الشرطة.
بدأت الكواليس عندما استغلت إميلي فير (36 عاماً) غفلة رجال الإطفاء بمحطة «بليزانت برايري»، لتتسلل إلى شاحنة صغيرة تابعة للإدارة في ساعة متأخرة من الليل.
وأظهرت تسجيلات المراقبة المتهمة وهي تدخل المركبة بكل هدوء، وتشغل أضواء الطوارئ، قبل أن تنطلق بها بعيداً عن المحطة دون أن يلاحظها الطاقم الموجود بالداخل.
وبينما كانت فرق البحث تحاول تتبع الشاحنة المختفية، تفاجأ رجال الإطفاء ببدء استلام إشارات صوتية من الشاحنة المسروقة، حيث ظهر صوت امرأة يتمتم بكلمات غير واضحة عبر جهاز اللاسلكي.
ولم تمضِ لحظات حتى قطعت المرأة التمتمة بسؤال مباشر عبر أجهزة القسم: «أنا جائعة، هل لديكم طعام هناك؟»، ليتحول طلب الطعام إلى دليل قاطع مكن السلطات من تتبع موقع الإشارة وحصر مكان الشاحنة.
وعثرت الدوريات الأمنية على الشاحنة المسروقة داخل مرآب تابع لإدارة الأشغال العامة قبيل الساعة الواحدة صباحاً. وأظهرت لقطات كاميرا أحد الضباط المتهمة وهي تحاول قيادة الشاحنة للخلف فور اقتراب الدورية، قبل أن يجبرها الضابط على التوقف والاستسلام.
وتواجه إميلي فير حالياً تهمة جنائية تتعلق باستخدام مركبة دون موافقة مالكها، مع عقوبة قد تصل إلى السجن لمدة 6 سنوات أو غرامة مالية تبلغ 10 آلاف دولار.
In one of the strangest theft incidents witnessed in the state of Wisconsin, a woman managed to sneak into a fire station and steal a truck without anyone noticing, but her "food request" over the department's radio was enough to end her adventure and land her in police custody.
The drama began when Emily Fair (36 years old) took advantage of the firefighters' distraction at the "Pleasant Prairie" station to sneak into a small truck belonging to the department late at night.
Surveillance footage showed the suspect quietly entering the vehicle, turning on the emergency lights, before driving away from the station without the crew inside noticing her.
While search teams were trying to track the missing truck, the firefighters were surprised to start receiving audio signals from the stolen vehicle, where a woman's voice was mumbling unclear words over the radio.
Moments later, the woman interrupted her mumbling with a direct question over the department's radios: "I'm hungry, do you have any food there?", turning her food request into a definitive clue that allowed authorities to track the signal's location and pinpoint the truck's whereabouts.
Security patrols found the stolen truck inside a garage belonging to the public works department just before 1 AM. Footage from one officer's camera showed the suspect trying to reverse the truck as the patrol approached, before the officer forced her to stop and surrender.
Emily Fair is currently facing a criminal charge related to using a vehicle without the owner's consent, with a penalty that could reach up to 6 years in prison or a fine of $10,000.
