لقي المتسلق النيبالي الشهير نيرمال بورجا، صاحب الرقم القياسي لأسرع تسلق لأعلى 14 قمة جبلية في العالم، مصرعه إثر انهيار جليدي خلال بعثة استكشافية في باكستان، في حادثة هزت مجتمع متسلقي الجبال حول العالم.
وأعلنت شركة Elite Exped المنظمة للرحلة، في بيان نشرته عبر حسابها على إنستغرام، اليوم (السبت) أن بورجا، المعروف بلقب «نيمسداي»، توفي بشكل مأساوي بعد الانهيار الجليدي الذي وقع على جبل برود بيك، مؤكدة أيضًا أن عددًا من أعضاء البعثة الآخرين لم ينجوا من الحادثة، دون الكشف عن تفاصيل إضافية.
فقدان منذ الخميس والعثور على الجثامين
وكان بورجا (43 عامًا) ضمن مجموعة مكونة من 10 متسلقين فُقدوا منذ يوم الخميس الماضي بعد أن ضربهم انهيار جليدي على ارتفاع شاهق في جبل برود بيك، الذي يبلغ ارتفاعه 8051 مترًا ويُعد ثاني عشر أعلى جبل في العالم وأحد أصعب القمم تقنيًا في منطقة غيلغيت-بلتستان شمال باكستان.
وأفاد مسؤولون باكستانيون بأن جثمان بورجا وعددًا من رفاقه تم تحديد موقعه في منطقة شديدة الوعورة، إلا أن فرق الإنقاذ لم تتمكن حتى الآن من انتشاله بسبب صعوبة الوصول إلى الموقع.
بطل عالمي صنع التاريخ في 2019
اشتهر نيرمال بورجا عالميًا بعد أن حقق في عام 2019 إنجازًا تاريخيًا بتسلق أعلى 14 قمة في العالم التي يزيد ارتفاعها على 8000 متر خلال 6 أشهر فقط، محطمًا الرقم القياسي العالمي في هذا المجال.
وسبق لبورجا أن خدم في الجيش البريطاني ضمن قوات الغوركا، قبل انتقاله إلى وحدات القوات الخاصة، ثم كرّس حياته لتسلق الجبال وتحقيق الإنجازات الاستثنائية.
وازدادت شهرته الدولية بعد عرض فيلم «14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible» على منصة Netflix عام 2021، الذي وثّق رحلته الملهمة في تسلق القمم الـ14.
جنسيات متعددة بين الضحايا
وذكرت السلطات أن الانهيار الجليدي وقع نحو منتصف نهار الخميس، وكان من بين المتسلقين العشرة 6 نيباليين، إضافة إلى متسلقين من باكستان وسلطنة عمان والولايات المتحدة والصين.
وتوفيت متسلقة الجبال العُمانية نظيرة بنت أحمد الحارثية، التي تعتبر أول امرأة عُمانية تبلغ قمة جبل إيفرست.
ووفق وكالة الأنباء العُمانية، عُثر على جثمانها أسفل موقع الانهيار، بعدما جرفت الثلوج فريق التسلق من ارتفاع يقارب 6600 متر.
وتمكنت فرق البحث من انتشال 3 جثث الجمعة، فيما جرى تحديد مواقع الجثامين الأخرى باستخدام طائرات مسيرة، بحسب تشانغ داوا شيربا، عضو مجلس إدارة شركة Seven Summit Treks، التي فقدت 3 من مرشديها في الحادثة.
وقال شيربا إن الجثامين لا تزال في مكان بالغ الصعوبة، موضحًا أن باكستان لا تعتمد أسلوب الإنقاذ الجبلي بواسطة الحبال الطويلة المعلقة بالمروحيات، كما هو معمول به في نيبال، الأمر الذي يزيد من تعقيد عمليات الاستعادة.
وأضاف: «علينا أن نأخذ في الاعتبار سلامة فرق الإنقاذ التي ستصعد إلى الموقع لانتشال الجثامين».
عملية إنقاذ معقدة
من جانبه، أكد نائب مدير هيئة السياحة في إقليم غيلغيت-بلتستان ساجد حسين أن عملية الإنقاذ لا تزال مستمرة، مشيرًا إلى أن الفرق تمكنت من تحديد مواقع الضحايا بدقة، لكن لم تتمكن بعد من إنزالهم بأمان.
وأوضح أن العملية تُعد من أكثر عمليات استعادة الجثامين صعوبة في المناطق الجبلية، إذ يتعين على فرق الإنقاذ تسلق الجبل للوصول إلى الموقع، بينما تقتصر مساهمة الطائرات المسيرة والاستطلاع الجوي على تحديد الأماكن فقط.
إرث سيبقى في عالم التسلق
بدأ بورجا سلسلة إنجازاته الكبرى بعد تسلقه جبل أنابورنا، عاشر أعلى جبل في العالم، ثم واصل تحدي بقية القمم التي يتجاوز ارتفاعها 8000 متر. ومن بين القمم الـ14 تقع 8 قمم في نيبال، و5 في باكستان، وواحدة في منطقة التبت الصينية.
ويؤكد خبراء التسلق أن عدد الأشخاص الذين تمكنوا من تسلق القمم الـ14 جميعها لا يتجاوز بضع عشرات حول العالم، ما يجعل إنجاز بورجا أحد أبرز الإنجازات في تاريخ رياضة تسلق الجبال.
The famous Nepali climber Nirmal Purja, holder of the record for the fastest ascent of the world's 14 highest peaks, lost his life due to an avalanche during an exploratory mission in Pakistan, in an incident that has shaken the global mountaineering community.
Elite Exped, the company organizing the trip, announced in a statement posted on its Instagram account today (Saturday) that Purja, known by the nickname "Nimsdai," tragically died after the avalanche that occurred on Broad Peak, also confirming that several other members of the expedition did not survive the incident, without disclosing additional details.
Missing Since Thursday and Recovery of Bodies
Purja (43 years old) was part of a group of 10 climbers who went missing since last Thursday after being hit by an avalanche at a high altitude on Broad Peak, which stands at 8,051 meters and is considered the twelfth highest mountain in the world and one of the most technically challenging peaks in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of northern Pakistan.
Pakistani officials reported that Purja's body and that of several of his companions were located in a very rugged area, but rescue teams have not yet been able to retrieve them due to the difficulty of accessing the site.
World Champion Who Made History in 2019
Nirmal Purja gained global fame after achieving a historic feat in 2019 by climbing the highest 14 peaks in the world, each over 8,000 meters, in just six months, breaking the world record in this field.
Purja previously served in the British Army with the Gurkha forces before moving to special forces units, then dedicated his life to mountaineering and achieving exceptional accomplishments.
His international fame increased after the release of the film "14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible" on Netflix in 2021, which documented his inspiring journey in climbing the 14 peaks.
Multiple Nationalities Among the Victims
Authorities reported that the avalanche occurred around midday on Thursday, and among the ten climbers were six Nepalis, in addition to climbers from Pakistan, Oman, the United States, and China.
The Omani climber, Nazeera bint Ahmed Al-Harthi, who is considered the first Omani woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest, also died.
According to the Omani News Agency, her body was found below the site of the avalanche after the snow swept the climbing team from an altitude of approximately 6,600 meters.
Rescue teams managed to recover three bodies on Friday, while the locations of the other bodies were identified using drones, according to Chang Dawa Sherpa, a board member of Seven Summit Treks, which lost three of its guides in the incident.
Sherpa stated that the bodies remain in a very difficult location, explaining that Pakistan does not employ the long-line helicopter rescue method as is practiced in Nepal, which complicates recovery operations.
He added, "We must take into account the safety of the rescue teams that will ascend to the site to retrieve the bodies."
Complex Rescue Operation
For his part, Sajid Hussain, the deputy director of the tourism department in Gilgit-Baltistan, confirmed that the rescue operation is still ongoing, noting that teams have been able to accurately locate the victims, but have not yet been able to safely bring them down.
He explained that this operation is one of the most challenging body recovery missions in mountainous areas, as rescue teams must climb the mountain to reach the site, while the contribution of drones and aerial reconnaissance is limited to identifying locations only.
A Legacy That Will Remain in the Climbing World
Purja began his series of major achievements after climbing Annapurna, the tenth highest mountain in the world, and then continued to challenge the remaining peaks over 8,000 meters. Among the 14 peaks, 8 are located in Nepal, 5 in Pakistan, and one in the Tibetan region of China.
Climbing experts confirm that the number of people who have managed to climb all 14 peaks does not exceed a few dozen worldwide, making Purja's achievement one of the most significant in the history of mountaineering.
