لقي 34 عاملاً مصرعهم في انفجار داخل مجمع لمناجم الفحم في منطقة سورانج، الواقعة على بعد نحو 40 كيلومتراً من مدينة كويتا عاصمة إقليم بلوشستان جنوب غربي باكستان.
وأفادت السلطات الباكستانية بأن الانفجار نجم عن تسرب غاز الميثان داخل أحد المناجم، مما أدى إلى انهيار أجزاء من منجمين متجاورين واحتجاز عشرات العمال تحت الأنقاض، فيما واصلت فرق الإنقاذ عملياتها في ظروف بالغة الصعوبة لانتشال الضحايا والوصول إلى العمال المحاصرين على أعماق كبيرة.
وأعلنت حكومة إقليم بلوشستان فتح تحقيق في أسباب الحادثة، مع التعهد بمراجعة إجراءات السلامة في قطاع التعدين.
Thirty-four workers lost their lives in an explosion inside a coal mine complex in the Suranj area, located about 40 kilometers from Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province in southwestern Pakistan.
Pakistani authorities reported that the explosion was caused by a methane gas leak inside one of the mines, leading to the collapse of parts of two adjacent mines and trapping dozens of workers under the rubble, while rescue teams continued their operations under extremely difficult conditions to retrieve the victims and reach the trapped workers at great depths.
The Balochistan provincial government announced the opening of an investigation into the causes of the incident, pledging to review safety procedures in the mining sector.
