In a shocking incident that disregarded the sanctity of the deceased and astonished social media users in Egypt, the Egyptian Ministry of Interior revealed the circumstances of a violent brawl that erupted inside a cemetery area in Giza Governorate, following the circulation of footage documenting fierce clashes between two families over a sudden dispute regarding the burial location of a body.
The report received by the "Atfih" police station in Giza revealed a fierce battle in which iron tools and wooden sticks were used among the graves, resulting in several injuries before security forces intervened to restore control.
A Battle Between Two Families... How Did the Spark Ignite?
According to official investigations and inquiries, the brawl involved two parties:
- The first party: three individuals from the local area residing near the graves in Giza.
- The second party: six individuals from the deceased's family, who came from Beni Suef Governorate to bury their relative.
The crisis began when the deceased's family (the second party) attempted to bury the body in a vacant piece of land adjacent to the graves of the first party's family. Since the land is state-owned and adjacent to the first party's graves, the latter strongly objected to the burial process, leading to a verbal discussion that quickly escalated into a violent physical confrontation in which both families exchanged brutal blows with sticks and iron.
This unusual battle resulted in three individuals sustaining injuries and bruises across their bodies, as documented in official medical reports. As the violence escalated and the sanctity of the situation was compromised, the deceased's family ultimately withdrew from burying the body in the disputed piece of land and decided to transfer the coffin and body to their private family graves to complete the burial ceremonies away from the battlefield.
The Egyptian Ministry of Interior confirmed that security forces acted immediately and managed to apprehend all parties involved in the brawl from both families, in addition to seizing the tools and iron pieces used in the incident. During the investigations, both parties exchanged accusations of initiating the assault and using violence, and the necessary legal reports were filed, with all suspects referred to the Public Prosecution to continue investigations and hold those involved accountable for violating the sanctity of the graves and disturbing public peace.
