في قلب الكارثة يولد الأمل، ومن رحم الركام تخرج المعجزات الصادمة. وهذا ما جرى في ولاية «لا غوايرا» الساحلية في فنزويلا التي شهدت واحدة من أكثر القصص الإنسانية ذهولاً ورعباً في آنٍ واحد، إذ وضعت شابة تبلغ من العمر 19 عاماً مولودها بطريقة طبيعية تماماً داخل ملعب بيسبول مفتوح، وسط الهزات الارتدادية العنيفة لزلزالين مدمرين ضربا البلاد بقوة 7.2 و7.5 درجة.
قبل الكارثة بأيام، كانت الأم الشابة «إليانا غارسيا» قد تلقت تقريراً طبياً قاطعاً يؤكد استحالة ولادتها طبيعياً بسبب «ضيق عظام الحوض»، وجرى تحديد موعد لجراحة قيصرية عاجلة بعد أسبوع لحمايتها وحماية جنينها.
لكن الطبيعة كان لها رأي آخر، فمع مباغتة الزلزالين العنيفين للمدينة وانهيار مبانيها، أصيبت إليانا برعب شديد باغتها بآلام مخاض مبكر وحاد في أسبوع حملها الثامن والثلاثين. ومع رعب السقوط، فرت الشابة مع عائلتها وعشرات السكان هرباً من الموت ليلجأوا إلى ملعب البيسبول المحلي باعتباره مساحة مفتوحة وآمنة من الانهيارات.
أدوات الجراحة: «مقص أظافر» وربطات شعر!
وسط عتمة الليل الدامسة، وخروج المدينة عن السيطرة وانشغال فرق الإنقاذ بانتشال الجثث والمصابين، تحول ملعب البيسبول إلى غرفة عمليات بدائية ومذهلة. وتطوعت مسعفة كانت في الموقع تبحث عن أقاربها للإشراف على الولادة الفجائية المستحيلة، وتمت العملية الأسطورية وسط هذه الظروف:
- الإضاءة: كشافات الهواتف المحمولة الخاصة بالنازحين فقط.
- التعقيم: غياب تام للمياه والقفازات الطبية، والاعتماد كلياً على معقم اليدين السائل (الجل).
- قطع الحبل السري: في غياب أي أدوات جراحية معقمة، واجهت العائلة مأزقاً خطيراً، ليلجأ الحاضرون إلى استخدام «ربطات شعر الفتيات المطاطية» لربط الحبل السري من الطرفين بعد سكب الكحول عليه، ثم قطعه بواسطة «مقص أظافر» صغير كان بحوزة إحدى الفارات.
نجت الأم وخرج الطفل إلى النور بمعجزة طبية وإنسانية حقيقية، وأطلقت عليه أمه اسم «غاييل خيسوس» (Gael Jesus). ونُقلت الأم وطفلها لاحقاً بصعوبة إلى مستشفى عام واجه تكدساً كارثياً للضحايا، قبل أن يتم إيواؤهما في مدرسة حكومية تحولت إلى مركز إغاثة مؤقت.
لكن هذه الفرحة الإعجازية ولدت مبتورة، ففي الوقت الذي كانت فيه إليانا تحتضن مولودها الجديد، فجعت العائلة بنبأ انتشال ابنتي شقيقها متوفيتين من تحت أنقاض منزلهما المنهار، في حين لا تزال شقيقتها وأحد أبناء إخوتها في عداد المفقودين تحت الركام حتى هذه اللحظة، ليمتزج بكاء الولادة بنواح الفقد في مشهد يختصر قسوة الكارثة الفنزويلية.
In the heart of disaster, hope is born, and from the womb of rubble, shocking miracles emerge. This is what happened in the coastal state of "La Guaira" in Venezuela, which witnessed one of the most astonishing and terrifying human stories at the same time, as a 19-year-old young woman gave birth naturally inside an open baseball field, amidst the violent aftershocks of two devastating earthquakes that struck the country with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5.
Days before the disaster, the young mother "Eliana Garcia" had received a conclusive medical report confirming that a natural birth was impossible due to "narrow pelvic bones," and an urgent cesarean surgery was scheduled for the following week to protect her and her fetus.
But nature had other plans; with the violent earthquakes surprising the city and causing buildings to collapse, Eliana was struck by intense fear that brought on early and severe labor pains in her thirty-eighth week of pregnancy. In the face of the chaos, the young woman fled with her family and dozens of residents to escape death, seeking refuge in the local baseball field as an open and safe space from the collapses.
Surgical Tools: "Nail Scissors" and Hair Ties!
In the pitch darkness of the night, with the city spiraling out of control and rescue teams occupied with retrieving bodies and the injured, the baseball field transformed into a primitive and astonishing operating room. A paramedic who was on-site looking for her relatives volunteered to oversee the impossible sudden birth, and the legendary procedure took place under these circumstances:
- Lighting: Only the flashlights of the displaced people's mobile phones.
- Sterilization: Complete absence of water and medical gloves, relying entirely on liquid hand sanitizer (gel).
- Cutting the umbilical cord: In the absence of any sterile surgical tools, the family faced a serious dilemma, prompting those present to use "rubber hair ties" to tie the umbilical cord from both ends after pouring alcohol on it, then cutting it with a small "nail scissors" that one of the rats had.
The mother survived, and the baby was brought into the light through a true medical and humanitarian miracle, and she named him "Gael Jesus." The mother and her child were later transported with difficulty to a public hospital that faced a catastrophic overflow of victims, before being housed in a public school that had turned into a temporary relief center.
However, this miraculous joy was born incomplete; at the moment Eliana was embracing her newborn, the family was devastated by the news of the recovery of her brother's two daughters, who were found dead under the rubble of their collapsed home, while her sister and one of her brothers' children are still missing under the debris to this moment, blending the cries of birth with the wails of loss in a scene that encapsulates the harshness of the Venezuelan disaster.
