في واقعة وُصفت بأنها «أشبه بالمعجزة»، نجا سكان حي نوتينغ هيل الراقي غرب العاصمة البريطانية لندن والمارة من كارثة محققة، إثر انحراف حافلة نقل عام عن مسارها واقتحامها الواجهة الأمامية لأحد المنازل السكنية، مخلّفةً وراءها دماراً هائلاً في الممتلكات دون تسجيل أي خسائر بشرية.
جرى الحادث المروع مساء الخميس في شارع سانت كوينتين أفينيو، عندما فقد سائق الحافلة السيطرة عليها فجأة، لتعتلي الرصيف وتطيح بعناصر من مرافق الطريق، قبل أن تواصل اندفاعها العنيف وتستقر داخل الطابق الأرضي لمنزل سكني مكون من عدة طوابق، متسببةً كذلك في سحق سيارتين كانتا متوقفتين في الجوار.
وقد وثقت الصور المتداولة لمسرح الحادث مشهداً صادماً للحافلة الحمراء الشهيرة وهي في قلب المنزل، بينما تحول الرصيف المحيط إلى كومة من الأنقاض والزجاج المهشم والحجارة المتناثرة. هذا الوضع الاستثنائي استدعى استنفاراً فورياً لفرق الإطفاء والإنقاذ، ورجال الشرطة الذين سارعوا إلى فرض طوق أمني مشدد حول المنطقة.
ورغم شدة الارتطام الذي هز الحي، أكدت السلطات اللندنية رسمياً خلو الحادث من أي إصابات؛ إذ لم يصب ركاب الحافلة أو المارة أو حتى سكان المنزل بأذى، ولم تستدعِ حالة أي منهم النقل إلى المستشفى أو تلقي العلاج في الموقع، وهو ما اعتبره مسؤولو الطوارئ نجاة إعجازية بالنظر إلى حجم الحطام.
وعلى الفور، باشرت فرق الإطفاء تأمين الموقع للتأكد من عدم حدوث تسرب أو اشتعال، في حين تولى مهندسون إنشائيون فحص الهيكل العام للمبنى المتضرر لتقييم مدى سلامته وخطر تعرضه للانهيار. وتزامناً مع عمليات إزالة الحافلة وسحبها، أغلقت الشرطة الطرق المحيطة وحولت مسارات خطوط النقل الأخرى لتفادي اختناق حركة المرور.
وفيما لا تزال الأسباب الحقيقية وراء هذا الانحراف المفاجئ غامضة، فتحت شرطة العاصمة بالتعاون مع هيئة النقل في لندن تحقيقاً موسعاً لكشف ملابسات الواقعة، وسط مناشدات لشهود العيان أو من يملك تسجيلات لكاميرات المراقبة بالتقدم لتقديم إفاداتهم.
In an incident described as "almost miraculous," residents of the upscale Notting Hill neighborhood in West London and passersby escaped a catastrophic disaster when a public transport bus veered off its route and crashed into the front of a residential home, leaving behind massive property damage without any recorded human casualties.
The horrific incident occurred on Thursday evening on Saint Quentin Avenue, when the bus driver suddenly lost control, causing the bus to mount the sidewalk and knock down elements of the roadside, before continuing its violent trajectory and coming to rest inside the ground floor of a multi-story residential building, also crushing two cars that were parked nearby.
Images circulating from the scene of the incident captured a shocking view of the famous red bus in the heart of the home, while the surrounding sidewalk turned into a pile of debris, shattered glass, and scattered stones. This extraordinary situation prompted an immediate mobilization of fire and rescue teams, as well as police officers who rushed to impose a strict security cordon around the area.
Despite the severity of the impact that shook the neighborhood, London authorities officially confirmed that the incident resulted in no injuries; neither the bus passengers, nor passersby, nor even the residents of the home were harmed, and none required transportation to the hospital or treatment on-site, which emergency officials considered a miraculous escape given the extent of the wreckage.
Immediately, fire teams began securing the site to ensure there were no leaks or fires, while structural engineers examined the overall structure of the damaged building to assess its safety and the risk of collapse. Concurrently with the operations to remove and tow the bus, the police closed surrounding roads and diverted other transport routes to avoid traffic congestion.
While the true reasons behind this sudden veering remain unclear, the Metropolitan Police, in cooperation with Transport for London, has launched an extensive investigation to uncover the circumstances of the incident, amidst appeals for eyewitnesses or anyone with surveillance camera footage to come forward and provide their accounts.
