في خطوة جديدة لتعزيز خصوصية المستخدمين، أعلنت «واتساب» إطلاق ميزة «أسماء المستخدمين» (Usernames)، التي تتيح التواصل مع الآخرين دون الحاجة إلى مشاركة رقم الهاتف، على أن يبدأ طرحها تدريجيًا خلال الأشهر القادمة.
وأوضحت الشركة، أن باب حجز أسماء المستخدمين فُتح اعتبارًا من هذا الأسبوع، ليتمكن المستخدمون من اختيار الأسماء التي يرغبون بها قبل الإطلاق الرسمي، في ظل تجاوز عدد مستخدمي التطبيق ثلاثة مليارات مستخدم، وما يرافق ذلك من احتمالات تشابه الأسماء.
ويتمكن المستخدم من إنشاء اسمه عبر إعدادات الحساب في أحدث إصدار من واتساب، مع التحقق من توفره، بينما يقترح التطبيق أسماء بديلة في حال كان الاسم المطلوب مستخدمًا. وإذا حُجز الاسم قبل وصول الميزة إلى الدولة، فيظل محفوظًا حتى تفعيلها مع إرسال إشعار للمستخدم. وأكدت واتساب، أن الميزة ستتيح بدء المحادثات مع أشخاص جدد أو أنشطة تجارية دون إظهار رقم الهاتف، في حين يظل الرقم ظاهرًا لجهات الاتصال التي سبق مشاركته معها. كما لن توفر الخدمة دليلًا عامًا للبحث عن المستخدمين، ولن يتمكن أي شخص من مراسلة مستخدم آخر إلا إذا كان يعرف اسم المستخدم كاملًا.
وأضافت الشركة، أنها توفر خيارًا اختياريًا يسمى «مفتاح اسم المستخدم» لزيادة مستوى الحماية، كما يتمكن منشئو المحتوى والشركات من استخدام أسماء موحدة عبر منصات ميتا المختلفة متى كانت متاحة، بما يسهم في تعزيز الهوية الرقمية وتسهيل الوصول إليهم.
In a new step to enhance user privacy, WhatsApp announced the launch of the "Usernames" feature, which allows communication with others without the need to share a phone number, set to be gradually rolled out over the coming months.
The company explained that the reservation for usernames opened starting this week, allowing users to choose the names they desire before the official launch, especially as the number of app users has surpassed three billion, which brings the possibility of name similarities.
Users can create their username through the account settings in the latest version of WhatsApp, with a check for its availability, while the app suggests alternative names if the desired name is already taken. If the name is reserved before the feature reaches the country, it will remain saved until it is activated, with a notification sent to the user. WhatsApp confirmed that the feature will allow starting conversations with new people or businesses without revealing the phone number, while the number remains visible to contacts with whom it has already been shared. The service will also not provide a public directory for searching users, and no one will be able to message another user unless they know the complete username.
The company added that it offers an optional feature called "Username Key" to increase the level of protection, and content creators and businesses can use unified names across various Meta platforms whenever available, contributing to enhancing digital identity and facilitating access to them.
