أعرب ملك المملكة المتحدة تشارلز الثالث عن حزنه الشديد إزاء حادثة تصادم قطارين وقعت مساء أمس (الجمعة) في منطقة بيدفورد شمالي لندن، التي أسفرت عن مقتل سائق قطار وإصابة 89 شخصاً آخرين.
وقال المتحدث باسم الملك، في بيان نقلته هيئة الإذاعة البريطانية «بي بي س» اليوم (السبت)، إن جلالة الملك «مفجوع» بالحادثة المأساوية التي وقعت مساء أمس، مشيراً إلى أنه يتم إطلاعه بشكل منتظم على آخر التطورات.
وأضاف المتحدث: «تعاطف جلالته مع عائلة المتوفى ومع جميع المصابين والمتضررين من هذه الحادثة المأساوية».
وقعت الحادثة نحو الساعة 17:12 بالتوقيت المحلي قرب بلدة إلستو، على بعد نحو 1.4 ميل جنوب مدينة بيدفورد، على خط ميدلاند ماين لاين، حيث اصطدم قطاران تابعان لشركة إيست ميدلاندز ريلواي، أحدهما قادم من نوتنغهام والآخر من كوربي، وكانا متجهين نحو محطة سانت بانكراس في لندن.
وأسفرت الحادثة عن مقتل سائق أحد القطارين، وإصابة 89 شخصاً، من بينهم 9 في حالة حرجة، و11 إصاباتهم «خطيرة جداً»، و22 إصاباتهم خطيرة، فيما تلقى آخرون علاجاً لإصابات طفيفة. ولا يزال 28 شخصاً في المستشفيات حتى صباح اليوم.
وهرعت فرق الإسعاف والطوارئ إلى المكان، بما في ذلك خمس طائرات إسعاف جوي، وتم إعلان الحادثة «حادثة كبيرة»، وتجري الشرطة البريطانية تحقيقاً لمعرفة أسباب التصادم، مع التركيز على إشارات السكك الحديدية وسجلات الصندوق الأسود.
وتعد هذه الحادثة من أبرز الحوادث السككية في بريطانيا خلال السنوات الأخيرة، وأثارت مخاوف بشأن السلامة على خطوط السكك الحديدية المزدحمة أثناء ساعات الذروة.
The King of the United Kingdom, Charles III, expressed his deep sorrow over the train collision that occurred last night (Friday) in the Bedford area north of London, which resulted in the death of a train driver and injuries to 89 other people.
The King's spokesperson stated in a statement reported by the BBC today (Saturday) that His Majesty is "shocked" by the tragic incident that took place last night, noting that he is being regularly updated on the latest developments.
The spokesperson added: "His Majesty's thoughts are with the family of the deceased and with all those injured and affected by this tragic incident."
The incident occurred around 17:12 local time near the town of Elstow, approximately 1.4 miles south of Bedford, on the Midland Main Line, where two trains operated by East Midlands Railway collided, one coming from Nottingham and the other from Corby, both heading towards St Pancras station in London.
The collision resulted in the death of one of the train drivers and injuries to 89 people, including 9 in critical condition, 11 with "very serious" injuries, and 22 with serious injuries, while others received treatment for minor injuries. As of this morning, 28 people remain in hospitals.
Emergency and ambulance teams rushed to the scene, including five air ambulance helicopters, and the incident was declared a "major incident." The British police are conducting an investigation to determine the causes of the collision, focusing on railway signals and black box records.
This incident is one of the most significant rail accidents in Britain in recent years and has raised concerns about safety on busy railway lines during peak hours.
