أعلنت الشرطة النمساوية، أمس (السبت)، توقيف رجل يبلغ من العمر 39 عاماً، للاشتباه في تورطه بقضية وضع سم فئران داخل عبوات غذاء مخصص للأطفال، في واقعة وصفتها الشركة المصنعة بأنها محاولة ابتزاز.
عبوات ملوثة عبر عدة دول
وكانت السلطات الألمانية قد كشفت الشهر الماضي عن العثور على خمس عبوات تم التلاعب بها من منتجات أغذية الأطفال التابعة للعلامة التجارية الألمانية «هيب»، في كل من النمسا وجمهورية التشيك وسلوفاكيا، قبل أن يتم استهلاكها. ولا تزال عبوة سادسة يُعتقد بوجودها داخل النمسا مفقودة حتى الآن.
شبهة ابتزاز مالي
ورغم عدم إفصاح شركة «هيب» عن تفاصيل دقيقة بشأن عملية الابتزاز، أفادت تقارير إعلامية نمساوية بأن الشركة تلقت رسالة بريد إلكتروني في مارس الماضي تطالب بدفع مليوني يورو خلال ستة أيام.
تأخر في اكتشاف التهديد
وبحسب المعلومات، لم تنتبه الشركة للرسالة إلا بعد مرور أسبوعين على انتهاء المهلة المحددة، إذ كانت قد أُرسلت إلى بريد إلكتروني جماعي لا يخضع للمراجعة بشكل منتظم.

ولا تزال السلطات تواصل تحقيقاتها لكشف ملابسات القضية بشكل كامل، في ظل مخاوف تتعلق بسلامة المنتجات الغذائية الموجهة للأطفال في الأسواق الأوروبية.
The Austrian police announced yesterday (Saturday) the arrest of a 39-year-old man on suspicion of being involved in a case of placing rat poison inside food packages intended for children, in an incident described by the manufacturing company as an extortion attempt.
Contaminated packages across several countries
German authorities revealed last month that five tampered packages of baby food products from the German brand "HiPP" were found in Austria, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia, before they were consumed. A sixth package, believed to be in Austria, is still missing.
Suspicion of financial extortion
Although "HiPP" did not disclose specific details about the extortion attempt, Austrian media reports indicated that the company received an email in March demanding the payment of two million euros within six days.
Delay in discovering the threat
According to information, the company did not notice the email until two weeks after the deadline had passed, as it had been sent to a group email that is not regularly monitored.
Ongoing investigations
Authorities are still continuing their investigations to fully uncover the circumstances of the case, amid concerns regarding the safety of food products intended for children in European markets.
