تحوّل مهرجان سباق الثيران «هوري حبّة» في ولاية كارناتاكا الهندية إلى مشهد من الفوضى والرعب، بعدما هاجم الثور الأبيض والرمادي نائبًا سابقًا وطرحه أرضًا أمام مئات المتفرجين في قرية باليغافي بمقاطعة شيفاموغغا.
ووفقًا لوسائل إعلام محلية، كان النائب السابق ماهالينغابا يقف أمام منزله لمتابعة السباق الشعبي عندما اندفع أحد الثيران الغاضبة نحوه بسرعة، ليصطدم به بعنف ويمسكه بقرونه قبل أن يطرحه أرضًا وسط صرخات الحضور الذين هرعوا للنجاة من مسار الحيوان الهائج.
وأظهرت لقطات مصورة جرى تداولها على نطاق واسع لحظة الهجوم وحالة الذعر التي عمّت المكان، حيث سادت الفوضى بين المتفرجين الذين حاولوا حماية أنفسهم من الثور المنفلت.
ونُقل النائب السابق إلى المستشفى مصابًا بجروح متعددة، وأكد الأطباء أن حالته مستقرة ولا تشكل خطرًا على حياته.
وتأتي الحادثة بعد أيام قليلة من مصرع أربعة أشخاص في فعاليات مشابهة لمهرجان «هوري» في مناطق هافيري وتيلفالي، ما أعاد الجدل حول ضعف إجراءات السلامة في تلك السباقات التقليدية التي تُقام سنويًا خلال احتفالات ديوالي، وتشهد منافسات شرسة بين الثيران المزخرفة أمام جماهير ضخمة.
ويرى مراقبون أن المهرجان، رغم شعبيته الثقافية الكبيرة، يظل «خطرًا قائمًا» في ظل غياب التنظيم الكافي وارتفاع حالات الإصابات بين المشاركين والجمهور على حدٍّ سواء.
The "Hori Habba" bull racing festival in the Indian state of Karnataka turned into a scene of chaos and horror after a white and gray bull attacked a former legislator and knocked him to the ground in front of hundreds of spectators in the village of Balegavi in Shivamogga district.
According to local media, former legislator Mahalingappa was standing in front of his house watching the popular race when one of the enraged bulls charged at him rapidly, violently colliding with him and goring him before throwing him to the ground amidst the screams of attendees who rushed to escape the path of the rampaging animal.
Footage widely circulated showed the moment of the attack and the panic that engulfed the area, as chaos reigned among the spectators who tried to protect themselves from the runaway bull.
The former legislator was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries, and doctors confirmed that his condition is stable and not life-threatening.
This incident comes just days after four people were killed in similar events at the "Hori" festival in the regions of Haveri and Telfali, reigniting the debate over the inadequate safety measures in these traditional races that are held annually during Diwali celebrations, featuring fierce competitions among decorated bulls in front of large crowds.
Observers believe that despite the festival's significant cultural popularity, it remains a "persistent danger" in light of the lack of adequate organization and the high incidence of injuries among participants and the public alike.
