في واحدة من أبشع قضايا الاستغلال البشري في فرنسا، كشفت السلطات مأساة امرأة في الـ45 من عمرها قضت خمس سنوات كاملة محتجزة داخل «جراج» تابع لمنزل زوجين مسنّين، عاشت خلالها في ظروف لا تليق بالحياة الآدمية، بعد أن استغلّا ضعفها وطيبتها وعلاقات عملها لسرقة أموالها وسلب حريتها.
كانت الضحية تعمل مساعدة تمريض في مستشفى بمدينة غيراند الفرنسية حين تعرفت على الزوج المسن خلال عملها، قبل أن يخدعها بعلاقة ودٍّ زائفة ويدعوها إلى منزله الذي يعيش فيه مع زوجته، لكن ما بدأ كزيارة بريئة تحوّل سريعًا إلى كابوس من العبودية والعزلة.
فخلال سنوات احتجازها، أُجبرت المرأة على النوم على كراسي الاستلقاء أو تحت خيمة صغيرة في الحديقة، وتتعرض للأمطار والبرد القارس، وتتناول طعامًا ملوّثًا بمواد تنظيف، وتغتسل بمبيضات حارقة. وكانت تتخلص من فضلاتها في أكياس بلاستيكية، بينما كان الزوجان يسيطران على حسابها البنكي ويستوليان على مستحقاتها من الضمان الاجتماعي.
وفي 14 أكتوبر الجاري، سنحت لها فرصة نادرة للهروب عندما أُرسلت لأداء مهمة بسيطة خارج «الجراج»، فاستغلت اللحظة وطرقت باب أحد الجيران طالبة النجدة. وعندما وصلت الشرطة، كانت قد فقدت نحو 50 كغم من وزنها وتبدو في حالة إنسانية مروّعة.
وكشفت التحقيقات أن الزوجين مارسا عليها التهديد النفسي والتعذيب الجسدي على مدى سنوات، ووجّهت إليهما النيابة العامة تهمًا تشمل الاختطاف المقترن بأعمال تعذيب وهمجية، والاستغلال المالي والبدني لشخص في وضع هشّ، وهي تهم تصل عقوبتها إلى السجن المؤبد.
القضية التي هزّت الرأي العام الفرنسي أعادت تسليط الضوء على الاستغلال الخفي الذي قد يقع داخل جدران بعض المنازل الهادئة، حيث من الممكن أن تُمارس أبشع صور القسوة باسم الثقة والعمل.
In one of the most horrific cases of human exploitation in France, authorities uncovered the tragedy of a 45-year-old woman who spent five full years held captive inside a garage belonging to an elderly couple. During this time, she lived in conditions unworthy of human life, as they exploited her vulnerability, kindness, and work relationships to steal her money and deprive her of her freedom.
The victim worked as a nursing assistant at a hospital in the French city of Guérande when she met the elderly husband during her work. He deceived her with a false friendship and invited her to his home, where he lived with his wife. However, what began as an innocent visit quickly turned into a nightmare of slavery and isolation.
During her years of captivity, the woman was forced to sleep on reclining chairs or under a small tent in the garden, exposed to rain and freezing cold, eating food contaminated with cleaning substances, and washing herself with harsh bleach. She disposed of her waste in plastic bags, while the couple controlled her bank account and seized her social security benefits.
On October 14th, she had a rare opportunity to escape when she was sent to perform a simple task outside the garage. She seized the moment and knocked on the door of a neighbor, asking for help. When the police arrived, she had lost about 50 kg of weight and appeared in a horrific human condition.
Investigations revealed that the couple had subjected her to psychological threats and physical torture over the years. The public prosecutor has charged them with kidnapping accompanied by acts of torture and barbarism, as well as financial and physical exploitation of a vulnerable person, charges that could lead to life imprisonment.
This case, which shook French public opinion, has brought renewed attention to the hidden exploitation that can occur within the walls of seemingly quiet homes, where the most horrific forms of cruelty can be practiced in the name of trust and work.
