وأوضحت شرطة الطرق السريعة في بيان رسمي أن الانفجار وقع في الجو فوق منطقة قريبة من قاعدة كامب بندلتون العسكرية، ما أثار حالة استنفار فوري بين القوات المشاركة وأجهزة الأمن. ولم تُسجل أي إصابات، غير أن الحادثة دفعت إلى تعليق التمرين مؤقتاً وفتح تحقيق عاجل لمعرفة ملابسات الانفجار المبكر للقذيفة.
