اشتعلت مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي الأمريكية غضباً بعد توثيق اعتداء شرطي في ولاية فلوريدا بعنف على امرأة من أصول أفريقية أمام أعين الأطفال والمارة، أثناء انتظارها لابنتها أمام المدرسة.
وبحسب صحيفة «ذا ميرور» البريطانية، فقد كانت المرأة وتُدعى إيريكا ماغريف (39 عامًا) قد أوقفت سيارتها في مكان غير مخصص وتركَتها تعمل أثناء انتظار طفلتها. وخلال محاولة الشرطي مخالفتها بتهمة الوقوف في مكان غير قانوني، تصاعد الموقف سريعًا إلى عراك عنيف وثقته كاميرات المارة.
ويُظهر التوثيق الشرطي وهو يمسك بذراع المرأة بعنف محاولًا تقييدها، بينما كانت تصرخ قائلة: «أنت تؤلمني!». وحين حاولت الإفلات من قبضته، طرحها أرضًا بعنف قبل أن يسحبها من شعرها ويخنقها، وسط صرخات الحاضرين الذين حاول بعضهم التدخل.
وأثارت الحادثة الجدل لأنها شهدت أول تطبيق عملي لقانون «هالو» الجديد، الذي دخل حيز التنفيذ مطلع يناير 2025، وينص على ضرورة ابتعاد المدنيين لمسافة لا تقل عن 7.5 متر عن عناصر الشرطة أثناء أداء واجبهم، تحت طائلة العقوبة.
وخلال الواقعة، ألقت الشرطة القبض على امرأتين من بين الحشود، هما أنيتا غيبسون (59 عامًا) وجاسمين جيفرسون (36 عامًا)، بتهمة انتهاك القانون الجديد واستخدام ألفاظ مسيئة ضد الشرطي.
وحتى الآن، لم تصدر الشرطة المحلية في فلوريدا بيانًا رسميًا حول الواقعة، إلا أن المقطع أثار نقاشًا واسعًا في الأوساط الحقوقية حول العنف المفرط وتقييد حرية المراقبة المدنية في الولايات المتحدة.
American social media erupted in anger after documenting a police officer in Florida violently assaulting a woman of African descent in front of children and passersby while she was waiting for her daughter outside the school.
According to the British newspaper "The Mirror," the woman, named Erika McGriff (39 years old), had parked her car in an unauthorized spot and left it running while waiting for her child. During the officer's attempt to cite her for parking illegally, the situation quickly escalated into a violent struggle captured by bystanders' cameras.
The footage shows the officer violently grabbing the woman's arm in an attempt to restrain her, while she screams, "You're hurting me!" When she tried to break free from his grip, he violently threw her to the ground before dragging her by her hair and choking her, amidst the screams of onlookers, some of whom tried to intervene.
The incident sparked controversy as it marked the first practical application of the new "Halo" law, which comes into effect in January 2025, requiring civilians to stay at least 7.5 meters away from police officers while they are performing their duties, under penalty of law.
During the incident, police arrested two women from the crowd, Anita Gibson (59 years old) and Jasmine Jefferson (36 years old), on charges of violating the new law and using abusive language against the officer.
So far, the local police in Florida have not issued an official statement regarding the incident, but the video has sparked widespread discussion in human rights circles about excessive violence and the restriction of civilian oversight in the United States.
